The three of us, my husband, a friend and I undertook a road trip from Dunedin, to Wanaka, to Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers, Greymouth and then to Christchurch via Arthur's Pass. This was.a very scenic trip and we stayed in some lovely accommodation. Raelene made us feel very welcome and showed us to our rooms. She emphasised that it would cost no extra for our friend to occupy another room rather than use the single bed in our room. That was very nice of her. Her breakfast, and particularly the poached eggs were delicious. She really knows how to poach an egg, which most people find as challenging as rocket science to get right. The beds were very comfortable although the pillows could have done with a bit more oomph. My husband and I like a decent pillow - 2 of them for preference.||||When it came to paying the bill, however, it came as a surprise to me that we were to be charged $280 for the 3 of us for one night instead of the total of $230 that was stated on the print out of the booking. I had thought that $230 was reasonably expensive for the 3 of us compared to other places along the way and in that vicinity, but had gone along with that price as a treat to ourselves on this occassion. To be then told it was an extra $50 was a price hike into the realm of unacceptable. I would not have booked it if I had seen the small print on the website stating that an extra person attracted a fee of $50. There were plenty of other places cheaper than that and seemingly just as nice. What is printed out on the booking sheet should be exactly what the customer should expect to pay. Raelene excused this by saying that that is just the way it prints out. I would suggest she look at this problem as a matter of urgency. I paid the extra $50 but I am sure there are many who would not have (and probably have not done so in the past). Had her poached eggs been just a shade less than the perfection they were, she would not have got her extra $50. These kinds of incidents when travelling do tend to leave a a sour taste in the mouth of what is usually otherwise a very...
Read moreReflection Lodge is ideally situated if you want to explore Fox Glacier (and also Franz Joseph Glacier which is only about a 30 min. drive away)! Accommodations are very comfortable and the view from the property of the mountains is amazing. Raelene is an excellent host -- warm, funny, and full of personality and great tips about the area. (She also made fresh poached eggs for us each morning, courtesy of her chickens!) ||||The lodge is located just off the main strip in town, which has bunch of restaurants nearby (maybe a 10 minute walk). And you are also just a few minutes away from Lake Matheson which is great for a short walk. We were able to hike out to see Fox Glacier and Franz Joseph Glacier in one day. Raelene also connected us with the local helicopter company to do a flight and glacier landing (unfortunately the weather did not cooperate). ||||We really enjoyed meeting Raelene and being her guests during our time there. Highly recommend if you're going to be in the Fox...
Read moreWe loved this place! We booked the B&B on the fly, while on a two-week motorcycle tour of NZ, and didn't know exactly what to expect. But, wow, were we pleasantly surprised. Raelene is simply a blast. She is funny, playful, outgoing and eager to please. And she gave us perfect suggestions for everything we wanted to do while in the area. The home and rooms are very nice. But to make it all the more special, the view from the reflecting pond in front of the property, at least on a clear day, is stupendous (see attached picture). Highly...
