We felt very comfortable from the first moment in this wonderful and very personal lodge. Sue-Ellen is a very warm and interested in her guests hostess. She always gave us many valuable tips for organizing our days in the area. The breakfast is prepared very personally and fresh and is extremely delicious, the location of the lodge with a view over the river plain is breathtaking, the rooms are lovingly designed and very clean. Sue-Ellen really manages to make you feel very valued and she thinks of everything - for example, she gave us a cooler bag for drinks and a picnic blanket for our day at the lake without us asking. We can highly recommend Rimu Lodge - it's a little paradise in the big paradise of New Zealand.

What a place. Every detail has been thought about and it makes for a stay that is truly completely relaxing and comfortable. Stunning views, plush furnishings/decor, a generous happy hour where you can meet other guests and a super knowledgeable host. Honestly what more could you need.

We stayed one night at the start of our NZ trip - we had just taken the TranzAlpine Express and picked up a car in Greymouth. We wished we could have stayed longer. Sue-Ellen is lovely, the perfect host. We had welcome drinks on arrival, and as we were the only guests that night, Sue-Ellen gave us an upstairs room with a better view. There are only 4 rooms in the property, and our room was large and had everything we could possibly need. In the evening, Sue-Ellen recommended the local pub for dinner and booked us a table. That was also very good. Breakfast was the best one we had in 3 weeks in NZ. Fresh fruit, breakfast cooked to order. Nothing was too much trouble. Sue-Ellen recommended we visit Lake Matheson on our long drive down to Wanaka and this was also a great stop for lunch and a walk. Overall, a...

1st Class in every way. Sue-Ellens Rimu Lodge is located just a short way out of Hokitika. Everything is simply perfect. Guests are treated to high degree of hospitality from the moment they are greeted. The surroundings were a true delight. The history and beauty of the area are both fascinating and spectacular. Rimu Lodge is a destination. We made a good choice staying for several nights rather than a one night B&B. Highlights of the area are the Tree Top canopy walk. Blue waters of the spectacular Hokitika Gorge must be regarded as one of the best easy walks in New Zealand. On the doorstep of Rimu lodge are relics of West Coast gold rush days. There is so much to do in the area. Made better by returning to Rimu Lodge each evening and relaxing in the splendid lounge with its grand log fire. Thank you so...
