Read moreIn case anyone is wondering about the reviews being either very good or very bad.... The thing is Grand Central hotel has two sections and I happen to have stayed in both. The anexx (old) is terrible, old and dirty...I spent one night and there was no water in the tap, I had to beg the staff to get me a bucket of water to use, the AC was not cooling and was leaking, the bathroom door does not close, the sheets were old and the walls were stained. I had to stay there that night because they were fully booked and likewise other hotels in town. The main block or newer section is a bit better but unfortunately the maintenance has been bad over the years and the rooms have deteriorated over the years... Older broken down furnitures, leaky pipes and showers and toilets, old sheets and moldy curtains. When I stayed in 2019 I was lovely, nice, new and comfy.. but not anymore. The staff are quite nice and try their best. The management needs to sit up and do something about the rooms in general. It's unfortunate as the hotel has so much potential. My advice? Please confirm where your allocated room is, if it's the new section with the lift.... You can manage it if you get a good room. If it's the old section.... Please run...
Read moreSpent a weekend here and I must say that first of all, the staff and management of this hotel are cordial and warm. Always want to be sure the guests are ok. Reservations are advised for weekends so you don't end up with a 'fully booked' situation. Bookings usually come bundled as bed and breakfast. The structure of the building is just lovely and you'd not hesitate to take out your phones. Don't worry, they are friendly. They'd allow photos as long as they aren't disturbing other guests.
Once you get in, the first thing that strikes you is the interior style. Never seen anything like it. It is fashioned like a library with real books of all sorts; fiction, educative, etc. There are chairs lined up where you can sit and read something. It's just lovely and phenomenal. The general restaurant operates till very very late at night in the even you are having a late night. Wheelchair accessibility is quite impressive though the elevator could be better if it had more room. It is just wide enough for straight in and out. Had a nice stay. It is quite central in town and easy to go...
