Very accommodating reception clerks to help you find things to do and see while visiting Sandefjord. FYI: there’s no lift (the hotel was built in the 1600s and has not been retrofitted for an elevator). This hotel is historic and if that’s the vibe you’re looking for, you’ll definitely get it here. 100% cotton sheets on comfortable beds with fluffy duvets. The pillows weren’t great but they were adequate. The rooms are kinda small and do not have space for medium-large suitcases, which is good because I doubt you will want to haul a large/heavy suitcase up the stairs anyway. Climate control in the rooms consists of a window and a small, oscillating fan. There were radiators in the rooms, but we stayed in summer so no heat was needed. The rooms each have a television, a desk area with kettle, tea, and instant coffee available. The Kong Carl also serves a phenomenal breakfast in the dining room and offers afternoon tea/coffee that you can enjoy on the patio in front of the hotel.
The surrounding area is beautiful. Loads of greenery, parks, boats, restaurants, whaling museum, and shopping within walking distance from the hotel. Friendly people everywhere and a great place to visit if you want to relax and escape from an...
Read moreI stayed in this hotel for a stop while traveling. After arriving I was greeted by very friendly staff who kindly helped me looking for a place to eat for the night. We arrived very late so we didn't eat at the hotel.
There was a problem with a leaking faucet in our room, and we were offered a new room free of charge. Larger and more luxurious without any hassle, the staff handled it very professionally.
Another thing that surprised me (maybe that's my lack of travelling experience in Norway) was that I had to pay 150NOK to park my car.
The hotel has a very nice ambiance, feels almost antique. The rooms are a completely different matter. The bed and furniture are made from some weird shining aluminum, which makes it feel very very cheep. Like a motel you'd take your secretary to ;).
But. Everything is very clean, everything works perfectly, fast internet, comfortable mattress....
Read moreThe room was open when we found it (at 2300) with keys in the lock and dirty laundry on the floor, there were also empty beer bottles in the room. The shower drain was blocked so the bathroom flooded and took a long time to drain, the shower also ran hot cold, which was unpleasant at best. The lighting in all the rooms was terrible. We were also charged for parking despite not being told there was a cost for this. The hotel is under renovations which we were not told about with sawdust tracks in the corridors and nothing stopping the dust etc coming out of the room being worked on (ripped up) with all the workmen wearing masks. When we informed the staff member about all of the above we were essentially shrugged off. Having stayed in a lot of hotels this was really a bad experience for a place with a lot of potential. The positives were that the...
