Most fun we’ve ever had golfing, and a brilliant base for exploring the Lofoten Islands. It’s a challenging course with utterly breathtaking views, so wild and beautiful and just delightfully fun. Seems impossible that they created a course here and it’s remarkable, indeed.
The main reason we came here was for my husband, who played four rounds in 24hr, I believe. I lost count. He plays year round in Florida and during all our travels in the US and abroad. He declared that it was the most fun he’s ever had golfing and if he could only play one more round of golf in his life, he’d choose to golf at Lofoten Links. I’m pretty new to golf, but it was also the most fun I’ve ever had golfing as well!
Our favorite round was teeing off at 12:45am. It was quiet and peaceful and still, and we’ll never forget it. We especially loved that the course wasn’t super busy during this time. We often felt as if we had the entire course to ourselves and it was wonderful to take in the scenery without being preoccupied with pace of play.
We walked our first round and then opted for a cart to spare our legs, which really ended up being a very good choice given how many rounds we ended up playing thanks to the Midnight Sun. It was an experience worth every penny.
After seeing the most recent review before mine, I feel the need to remind of the location of this golf course— Lofoten Links is north of the Arctic Circle, this is not Florida. It’s not possible to keep pristine conditions during all months of play, and we truly felt fortunate just to be here and have the opportunity to play. It’s a magical place. I can assure you that you’ll settle in and enjoy your round for what it is— transcendent golf in the most remarkable place with the most astounding views. If you’re letting tee boxes and greens rise above an otherwise remarkable experience, this is likely not the course for you. We golfed here at the beginning of the season the first week of June. The greens were coming along, but they were challenging and nowhere near perfect, especially this year after a very, very harsh winter. We talked extensively with the grounds crew as we saw them about (they are so courteous and did not interfere with play at any point during any of our rounds) and they are literally working around the clock to get the course in top shape. If you’re looking for more ideal conditions, visit August/Sept.
That said, if you’re looking for ideal conditions, this is likely not the course for you. Step up to the challenge and just enjoy! Don’t keep score, just play and take the good shots alongside the bad with a laugh and a smile no matter what the outcome. It will make you feel like a kid again and you’ll have the most fun round of your life. Just be sure to take lots of balls because if they hit the heather— they’re gone.
The staff advised that the best northern lights in Lofoten are often in September, so that’s when we will be returning when we come next to golf here.
We stayed at one of the Lofoten Links Lodges and everything was top notch from start to finish. We had our children with us and everyone was so kind and accommodating and they even scrounged up some children’s clubs so they could pitch and putt. We ate at Laven a few times and even booked a horseback riding tour, which was delightful! We enjoyed the lovely walks in the area as well.
We can’t wait to come back, and many thanks to the most hardworking, amazing humans who make exploring here a dream come true...
Read moreAfter having stayed on the camping ground nearby for one night last September, we were already in love with Hov. This time, due to the season, we chose to rent a lodge to spend the weekend there.|The weather was challenging but that actually made the stay better because the lodges are the perfect hideaway during bad weather. Just chuck in a few pieces of wood into the fireplace that comes along with the place and then you can enjoy the spectacle from the couch.|The lodge has everything you need to have a quality stay for a few days or even weeks. The beds are comfortable, the bathroom is spacious and comes with a relaxing shower (and an extra plus - rituals soap and shampoo). The shared kitchen is equipped with the basics that you need.||We were fortunate we had the place for ourselves but even if we had to share it with someone else, it would have been alright because the rooms appear to be soundproof. But if you are a group of friends or plan a family vacation those lodges are a great choice.||The location may appear off the beaten track but it is absolutely worth taking a small detour. It isn't that far from both towns of the Lofoten Islands and some other attractions that you can find in the area. The surrounding nature is spectacular and offers (almost literally) a mountain right behind your doorstep. There are some gorgeous beaches in and around Hov that can be used for water activities (if you are keen and willing to hop out into Arctic ocean). Beyond that there are heaps of trails you can just take a hike on. During the summer you can enjoy a round of golf on (if I am not mistaken) the northernmost golf course that has 18 holes. You can also book a horse ride or the sauna (located very close to a beach) at the horse farm nearby that also offers breakfast, dinner and drinks during the summer season. We didn't get to enjoy that due to time of our stay but back in September we enjoyed a lovely breakfast there.||There is also a small grocery store in the village a five minutes drive nearby that has all the necessary stuff you need to have for making your own meals at the lodges.||Thank you Lofoten Link Lodges for an amazing...
Read moreOur group of 27 golfers plus one non-golfer spent three days at Lofoten Links. We played three rounds of golf and stayed three nights in Lofoten Links Lodges. My wife and I stayed in lodge #5, about 1,5 km from the clubhouse. The distance from the clubhouse wasn’t a problem because the staff arranged pickups to the clubhouse, if needed. It was a pleasure to share the lodge with two other couples from our group. We had a lot to talk in the living room. The kitchen was fully equipped but we didn’t use it a lot because we had breakfast in the clubhouse restaurant and dinner at Hov Gård.||||Our bedroom was modern and of a high standard with two very comfortable beds and an excellent bathroom. The room was small but – no problem – we could leave our golf bags in the clubhouse overnight. Next to the lodge entrance there was also a shared storage where we could keep our suitcases. The housekeeping worked very well and kept our room clean. Regarding the accommodation everything worked perfectly.||||Unfortunately we had no opportunity to climb the Hoven mountain to admire the breathtaking scenery. On the first day when the sun was shining all day we were very busy. During the last two days clouds were falling down along the slopes of the mountain preventing the visibility from the top.||||We had two three-course dinners in Låven at Hov restaurant, 400 m from our lodge. It is a restored hay barn above the horse stables with a cozy and rustic atmosphere. These dinners were a perfect culinary experience. Every course was delicious, fresh, cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. The restaurant has a good wine list. The service was professional, friendly and relaxed. Our third evening meal at Lofoten Links was a BBQ dinner in the clubhouse restaurant.||||A very modern, clean, comfortable and enjoyable resort with good service. We had fantastic three days and nights here. Perfect place for golfing holidays. Lofoten Links Lodges is certainly worth of its 60th place in Golf World’s ranking list ’Top 100 Resorts in Continental Europe’. Highly recommended!||||Please, read my review of Lofoten Links golf course elsewhere in...
