PPR is a solid hotel, which is likely the best in Palau. Its got one of the best locations, with a wonderful beach (manmade apparently if you care), views overlooking the sunsets, well maintained grounds, very friendly staff and good facilities - pool, beach, tennis courts, gym, nature trail, dive centre. Having researched, and now been, i don't think there's better on the island.||There seems to be an extensive modernisation programme taking place with the rooms - the hotel is 40 years old this year (happy birthday!) and the rooms look tired, as do some of the public areas in the hotel. Much of the public walkways have now been painted a modern mid-grey, brown mix of colours that is very cool looking and instantly modernises some of the areas. The bedrooms though are still tired looking - well built and sturdy - but wicker furniture, old venitian blinds, dusty artwork, etc. I hope the hotel addressed these as the rooms are a good size and the beds are very comfortable.||I think the whole island is struggling to get back to pre-pandemic tourist numbers; I read whilst we were there that they were at 50%, so the hotel felt empty at times and certainly wasn't at capacity when we were there even as it was over Christmas and New Year. As a result, some of the restaurants weren't operating and so we found oursleves with the main restaurant only being open with an all day menu the same as the room service menu every day. ||The food was OK, not great - the new owners apparently swapped out the Australian Exec Chef for a local one and it shows. The menu is not exciting, and when you've only got one place to eat - we ate out most nights, so the hotel is losing revenue. It needs to inject some investment in this area - themed nights (Italian, Asian, French, buffet, etc) or put daily specials on. We felt this let the hotel down, especially as we'd hoped to have some choice of different places to eat within the hotel. As a result, however we can now recommend several places to eat around town - some of whom will pick you up for free!||On the same theme, the spa - every time we went to go in - was closed with a "we'll be back at...." sign on the door. Another revenue lost opportunity for the hotel. Same with the shop - lights always on and open until 23:00 but door often locked and you had to ring a door bell to get attention - sometimes someone would come, other times not. In the end, we gave up. One time I went to reception to see if someone could help and there were no staff aorund to help open the shop up, so I left it. ||The beach was lovely, good house reef with some available things for hire - snorkels, masks, kayaks, etc. Better, more modern beds would be advantageous for the hotel as the white sunbeds have had it and the hotel charging for mask rentals, etc seemed tight. It's worth noting that the hotel is not cheap in any regard - food, rooms, beach rental - its expensive overall to stay here and in some respects the experience needs to be tightened up.||The highlight was New Years Eve - we paid $155 per person for a buffet meal and drinks, which quickly became apparent were limited. The whole evening was a bit of a joke, from the running out of beer at around 8pm (they hadn't, our waitress had got it wrong), to being given warm beers, that needed returning, so they could be put in the freezer for 10mins to cool down, to sitting out by the pool bar with our tokens, but being unable to be served here, to the bar by the beach running out for gin at 22:00, despite having had a year to plan for stock, to the DJ (DJ Drizzle) arriving late; the whole evening was amateurish and over-priced. ||That said, the hotel has a warm and homely feeling so you can't help but forgive its misgivings. Its one of the best on the island, and you'll pay for this 'status', but its not one of the best in the world. If we're ever lucky enough to return to Palau, I would go back, perhaps later in the high season as I expect with more holiday makers there, more of the restaurants and facilities will be open that will make the end to end experience just that bit better. Plus, I'm intrigued as to what their bedroom modernisation...
Read moreOur stay at Palau Pacific Resort was truly magical — this place is paradise on Earth. Peaceful, welcoming, and unforgettable.||From the moment we arrived, we were amazed by the exceptional hospitality. Every team member we met — from the front desk (Corind, Kali, Jojit, Rolel, Leong, Akio) to housekeeping (thank you, Alice!) — was warm, kind, and attentive. Everyone greeted us with smiles and heartfelt care.||The food was simply outstanding. Breakfasts were fresh and diverse, and every dish throughout the day — whether seafood, steaks, lamb, or Asian cuisine — was perfectly prepared. Our dinner by the ocean was especially unforgettable — both the flavors and the romantic setting. Huge thanks to Chef Johnny, and our wonderful servers — Leanie, Dinana, Corrine, Duane, and Jonathan. And to the amazing bar team — Heather, Elithabet, and Darlace — thank you for the delicious drinks and fun, friendly chats.||The resort's amenities were everything we dreamed of: a clean, quiet beach, clear ocean water for snorkeling, kayaking, and paddleboarding, a beautiful pool, and a cozy hot tub — which was magical to relax in while it rained.||But what made our stay truly unforgettable was our wedding — organized with so much care, love, and deep respect for tradition. We are forever grateful to General Manager Lusy, our incredible wedding organizer Jenes and his assistant Surs, and the wise and kind Rey, who performed the traditional Palauan ceremony. The beach was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers and greenery. We received stunning handmade flower leis, were dressed in traditional wedding costumes, and I was lovingly helped into mine. The moment I walked to the sound of the conch shell — it was absolutely breathtaking. Thank you to Teruo and Meshak for your warm presence at the wedding and for the amazing coconut oil workshop, which connected us even more with Palauan culture.||We were also deeply touched by a very special gift from the hotel — a handcrafted wooden artwork illustrating a Palauan legend, personalized with our names. It was beautiful and meaningful beyond words.||Special thanks as well to Hidetaka Sudamori and Karen from Sales, and our talented photographer Nishide, who captured every magical moment.||To everyone at Palau Pacific Resort — thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
