We 9 friends have just had the best trip via Kalibobo Village & Resort on their luxury cruise boat "Kalibobo Spirit" - an expedition cruise on the Sepik river & to the volcano islands near its mouth. ||With the veteran owner-operator of the complex aboard as skipper & another PNG old hand in Dame Carol Kidu as guest lecturer plus the ruling Miss Pacific Islands & her team along, we were introduced to one of the world's unspoilt natural wonders - and the remarkable village peoples. Both Sir Peter & Dame Carol are evidently held in high regard and we could not have had better welcome everywhere.||The river was running high after the wet season so our "river truck" had us landing in the heart of villages, planing along the wide river for miles, steering along what were normally jungle paths, or working through narrow "barat" canals to access remote villages - & always to a warm welcome where we could add a little cash to village economies. Each one had their own specialty in crafts & while we could not match the wonderful collection of artefacts at Kalibobo, we did bring home some remarkable pieces. Read moreThe Sepik River Cruise aboard the Kalibobo Spirit from Madang Province across the Sepik River was an amazing experience! ||||Prepare to be blown away by the humility of the locals and enriched by culture along the banks of the Mighty Sepik River. See Papua New Guinea as it is, pure and real! Whilst on the expedition the hospitality we received made us feel at home in a luxurious setting. From the amenities and facilities provided on board, the bar, being catered for by a 100% local crew, the three course meals each day upon the River surely added to the award-winning experience.||||When we returned to Madang Resort Hotel, we stayed at the White-House. This is one of the newest additions. The rooms are luxurious and feature a lush balcony view, with the sea-view not far off.||||I would definitely look at taking one of their expeditions again, also to other provinces on offer...||Staying at the Resort was quite relaxing, secluded from the stressful activities...
Read moreWe arrived at Madang, Papua New Guinea as part of our 43 day Maasdam cruise circling Japan to Sydney, Australia. After docking at the commercial port, we disembarked to visit Sir Donald Cleland Park, the Provincial Museum, Machine Gun Beach and the Coast watchers Light before ending up at this resort. Their 2 story lobby had a money exchange, hair salon, gift shop and reception to arrange for use of their large pool. We walked the garden that ran for 500 meters along the seafront seeing several Victoria crowned pigeons among their many flowering plants and trees. After stopping to see their large 2 story restaurant, we took their free shuttle back to the port knowing where we found the top place to stay on a visit to this...
