Booked deluxe room, is a noise hell. There's a conference taking place right now and the hotel parking lot is packed with SUVs. The Deluxe Rooms are located opposite the reception around the car park. On average every ten minutes the extremely loud alarm system of one of the cars goes off, either from the driver's remote control or from birds, I have no idea. This goes on all day and until late in the evening, sometimes at night too. Sleep is a problem even with ear plugs. I intervene on the first day and want another room further away from the parking lot. Reception is reluctant, at first I was promised a smaller bungalow by the sea (rocky shore, no beach), but then the receptionist in the afternoon wanted a high surcharge. This goes on for three days. I was always promised a conversation with management but it never happened. On the last day I meet the managers by chance at breakfast: a German couple. Their office would be right next to the reception, they would have looked for me too, I would have been given another room. I just don't believe that because I was easy to find and all the receptionists said that the managers weren't available.|There are supposed to be three restaurants, but only one is open outdoors because an earthquake caused some damage, including in the large pool. Nobody knows why the small pool next to it full of water, clean and attractive, is not allowed to be used. There is no room service, and I'm not allowed to take my food to my room, which means I have to eat outside in the evening, surrounded by crowds of people and mosquitoes. The food is bad anyway for such an expensive hotel, basically junk food. Seasoning is unknown.|Service is zero, except for the laundry, which works...

Trafficked tree kangaroos at Madang Resort!

Hi all,

I stayed at Madang Resort in Oct 2017 and wanted to share my experience with you.

Madang Resort as such is OK value for money if you get an online deal incl. breakfast. Location is probably the most convenient in town. Rooms are somewhat run-down (renovations are taking place for the APEC Summit in 2018) and there's no access to the sea from the hotel premises.

However, I would recommend all travelers to REFRAIN from staying at Madang Resort.

Reason: They have trafficked tree kangaroos in small enclosures. I asked the staff about the animals and without hesitation they told me that the resort had bought the kangaroos off the locals, who'd caught them in the forest. I escalated the matter to the manager, who concurred and said they were there for the guests to enjoy. Besides the tree kangaroos, the cages hold birds incl. big hornbills (there's no room for them to fly).

Madang has an elaborate range of good hotels and guest houses; choose a different option than Madang Resort.

In my naïvity, I'm hoping that if enough guests stay away from MR due to their animal policies, maybe that'll change their attitude and make them either built bigger enclosures or release the poor beasts entirely (they've been in captivity for 1.5 years meaning that they probably could be re-released without issues).

I believe it's our responsibility as guests and consumers to take a stand against businesses who by engaging in animal trafficking thus encourage locals to capture them...

Spent two nights with my friend who was staying there before heading for a trip to Karkar Island. It was a wonderful experience, the rooms were really comfortable, airconditioned, with a large flat screen TV and a balcony. The meal was quite good also, especially at night, when watching villagers fish on their canoes.

I didn't stay long to test other amenities, but I do recommend it for others to try! They have a boat rides to the islands, and also I hear they offer a good diving and snorkeling experience also. The small markets outside the main entrance also support mothers who sell freshly fried fish, and fried sago which is a must try also!

I'll give a four star due to the fact that I have not stayed there myself and tested all services on offer (including room prices), but I do recommend since I believe it is far more better than all other hotel/resorts in Madang (To be fair, I haven't been to most hotels in Madang, but I'm also rating due to...

The best in PNG. I love the staff. Their approach were ever friendly and open. Came with my family for graduation and we had the best time. They were ready to go out of their way to get bake us pizza after they had closed. The ☎️ was dead in our room. But I loved the room and the room service was excellent. Very mindful of the people accommodated.

One of the beautiful ship floating in the ocen, its kind of reaction I would like to say. It's really beautiful in a beautiful ocean view location. Can't describe any words. We went for a meeting and I got many of the pictures. Absolutely fabulous and you guys ho and enjoy the location your self. Thanks for the team who manage this hotel.
