We visited and stayed at a number of hotels/hostals in Huaral before ending up at this one. If you ever are unfortunate enough to have to visit the city of Huaral, this hostal is your best chance of having a barely tolerable experience.||||The Good:||||- Secure carpark||- Gardens which add some character||- The hotel has a reasonably good restaurant: 'Las Terrazas'||- WiFi||- There is a swimming pool||- The cleaning staff are friendly and helpful.||- Huaral has a few good restaurants, one is right by the hotel.||- The district of Huaral is a great place to visit, especially if you drive up into the valley.||||The Bad:||||- The restaurant is only open on Sundays||- The swimming pool only has water in summer.||- Huaral is not a nice city by any stretch of the imagination.||||- Out of the 4 receptionists/security guards we met, only one (two on occasion) seemed to understand what their job responsibilities were. The youngest one is on the telephone all night and blocks the internet for the guests by watching facebook and youtube videos - on occasion watching you blankly whilst taking on the phone as you stand outside waiting for him to open the door.||||- Despite being located on a minor road, the noise pollution is still to the level where we needed to play white noise all night in order to sleep! Moto taxis drive past at 2am booming reggaeton from sound systems designed for nightclubs (no exaggeration). Dogs bark, car alarms go off, guests shout at each other from across the terraces. The rubbish collection truck comes by every morning at around 6am with it's siren that is as loud as a burglar alarm... etc. etc.||||- The rooms are basic and in need of refurbishment, there is a smell of damp in the rooms on the ground floor.||||- Following on from a previous point about the WiFi - I nearly lost a $8,000 deal due to internet problems preventing me from finishing a Skype call. When I went to reception to ask them to restart the router (I am a techie), I see that the young kid is watching HD facebook videos and at first refuses to reboot the router telling me that his internet connection is fine so there's no need to restart. When I got angry and reminded him that we guests are paying for his wages, he reluctantly rebooted and I was able to finish my call - but, of course, from then on for the remainder of my stay (4 weeks!) he made every effort to be as unhelpful and uncourteous as possible... the same for a colleague who was with him at the time. Now, I don't care what hotel staff think of me personally but, when you are staying in the most expensive hotel in town, you expect staff to at the least be courteous (The cleaning staff, on the other hand, were extremely friendly and helpful)||||(NB. I finally managed to 'hack' into their network and reconfigure it, ensuring the coverage was bearable for the rest of my stay - after their 'IT guy' refused to do anything... 'that's just how the system is' he said, a very popular Peruvian response).||||In summary, there is not much difference between this hostal and 'Hostal Center' which is the same price. The main differences are that Hostal Center is a more modern building but is on a main road so the noise pollution is even worse unless you get a room on the opposite side of the building, the internet is just as bad with a slower connection. If you want somewhere away from a main road and in better surroundings: Las Dalias is the better option. If you need a decent internet connection (!) ...don't...
Read moreIt's a basic large old property. The bathrooms did not have any soap or towels. One towel for a double bed accommodation. The beds were extremely small, like a typical child's single bed.
For the double bed room, 180 soles were very over-priced for this place.
The restaurant was also very overpriced. We can as a large group, and their was no lighting in the sitting area by the pool, and it was extremely dark.
Pool was not clean and not heated.
As far as sleeping, the rosters were so loud in the morning that I could not sleep a wink. If I had known this, I would have never booked this hotel.
The rosters alone will be why I will never come back.
As far as the staff, they were all very nice, and all of the issues I stated above had nothing to do...
