I would like to think that past are the days in Peru when a visiting tourist was a free pray to lost reservations and funny room rates. However there seems to be exceptions, and Challanca is one of them. We arrived 9 pm, no reservations found despite of confirming via Expedia and credit card. Offered tariff 40 % higher than what we booked. At the end this did not work out, the desk guys backed off, original tariff was re-established, and we got our rooms. The hotel accepts cash only, and next day we checked with the day shift manager that out credit card was not charged - it was not. So, at the end, no issues.||||I feel the hotel is in a bit in a so - and -so neighborhood; our taxi driver warned us to walk towards the Plaza (left) only, a right turn at night would take us in a risky area. Later we could see that this is the case. On daytime the area looks OK.||||The hotel is basic; the rooms are OK, clean and so is also the bathroom with lots of hot water in the morning and the room has a good bed. No complaints, just do not forget to latch also the window to the corridor to avoid night visitors. Neither bedside lamp did not work, but I think this is standard. The breakfast is very basic but I do not think you could expect anything better at these room rates. ||||I did not like the rude reception, the area, or the room set-up, a window giving directly to a corridor where people are walking. You will probably survie in this budget hotel, but if you are a tourist visiting Ica, and could pay a bit more for comfort, I would select another hotel and another area than the very downtown which is not...
Read moreSituated only a block and a half from downtown, Hotel Challaca is conveniently located. It is modern, well appointed, and the rooms are clean and ample. Our shower head was broken but was immediately fixed. The price was good for what is received.||||Rooms come with an ample continental breakfast that actually leaves one satisfied. The dining area serves good food at a good price. The 'menu' lunch is economical and tasty. It comes with a starter, the main course, and a fresh beverage.||||The front desk staff was efficient, but some of them could have been a little more friendly, but overall we were treated well.||||The best part about Challaca is that immediately across the street there is a little ice cream shop called "Helados Tumi" that has been offering homemade ice cream and sandwiches for almost 40 years. Their vanilla milkshake is to die for and their grilled cheese with "queso mantecado" (monterrey jack) is delicious. They hand slice the cheese from a brick using a hand-cranked slicing machine......
Read moreWe arrived late in the evening on a bus from Lima. We searched for some budget accomodation in Ica, asking hostels along the way from the Flores bus station. But when we compared the prices in average/bad hostels to this hotel, there was nothing more to think about.||For 50 soles we got nice and clean room with private bathroom on the 4th floor. From some reason the top floor is a bit cheaper, maybe because there was no elevator and you need to take stairs.||In the room there was also TV which we did not use. There was no noise during the night, only if we left the bathroom door open because there was a window facing the side street.||The next day the porter suggested that we may leave our backpacks in the storage area and pick them up when we come back from the oasis. What a lovely guy.||The hotel is two blocks from local...
