I stayed here for 3 nights. It was a peaceful hotel located outside of the main town of Huaraz. The food is average, nothing spectacular. No kettle, coffee or tea in the room. So for someone like me who needs coffee first thing in the morning, you'll have to wait for the restaurant to open at 7am before you satisfy your caffeine fix. The waiter at the restaurant does not understand a word of English at all, so thank goodness for Google translate for telling me how to say revuelto. The room looks so old and needing repair. Bed linens smell moldy. I did like the beautifully-kept gardens and solitude.||||What should you avoid though? If they recommend to you Andes Heart (or Hard?) Travel Agency for your tours around Huaraz, find another travel agency or you'll be ripped off as they shamelessly did with me. It's the only place in Peru when I went around traveling for 4 weeks that I got ripped off. How was I ripped off? The hotel reception arranged my day tour with Lauro of Andes Heart/Hard. The agreed price for a private tour was 400 soles which includes Chavin ruins, Huascaran National Park and Huaraz city tour. At the end of the tour, Lauro was asking me for an additional 30 soles saying the city tour is an extra while it was agreed from the beginning that it was in the itinerary. Also, Toledo, the driver, kept picking up passengers along the way even though I paid for a private tour in his clunky old car. I didn't mind sharing the car with hitchhikers but Toledo asked them to pay, shameless!||||Not following my instinct, I contracted Toledo the next day to take me to Pastorouri Glaciers at 250 soles. So when he picked me up and we just left the hotel, he told me Pastorouri is "cerrado" and he recommended that I go to Olimpica Pass instead. So as much as I wanted to go to Pastorouri, I went somewhere else. What went wrong this time? Two things: 1. Toledo asked me to shell out an additional 50 soles for the gasoline which was not agreed upon; and 2. I found out later from other guests that they went to Pastorouri on that same day and it was not close at all.||||I learned the word ""malo" only in Huaraz. Toledo described Lauro his boss as malo. I say both of them are malo. So to reiterate, if the hotel recommends this travel agency and driver, you know...
Read moreWe stayed here for a night on on way to Colombia. The staff was very friendly and allowed us to check in early. The location itself it fairly far from Huaraz, maybe 15 to 20 minutes away and a cab should cost you 8 to 10 soles. A collective, or small bus should run you $1 sole and it is fairly fast. The station is right next to the hotel. Up the street from the hotel the Monterey hot springs, you can walk there and they are suppose to be fairly nice. We did not go so i can't recommend. We did not eat dinner at the Hotel, but when we got back it did not seemed open. We did arrange breakfast for the next morning and they catered to the fact that our flight left so early. We had great strong coffee, sweet bread, and some eggs. Our room was quaint and charming. The room was spotless as well as the bathroom. The beds were comfy and the grounds were meticulously kept. There is also free WIFI. If you like a place away from the Huaraz noise than this is a great spot. The negative is the distance away from any places to eat. Monterey, the town does not have a selection of restaurants. If you do go out to it a recommend TRIVIO, it is a upscale pub with Sierra Andena on tap. Sierra Andena has great tasting selection. The brewery itself was started by a couple of americans at the taste is on point. The food is burgers, sandwiches and some local dishes. I recommend the veggie burger as it was gigantic and full of avocado. I had the regular burger and...
Read moreOne of the best hotels. Although the hotel is listed only three stars, but stay in it felt like a much more prestigious hotel, thanks to the atmosphere and service. The hotel is tastefully decorated in a way that gives you a pleasant and relaxing home feeling. The hotel is built as one or two storey rooms built around paved courtyards or with a garden. Each corner is carefully designed. Isabelle, the owner of the hotel, is charming and together with the entire hotel staff provide excellent service. The lobby room or rather the general guest room is equipped with a fireplace that allows you to spend the evening with a good meal and a glass of wine and relax from one of the treks in the nearby mountains.Although the hotel is some distance from the city center, but the center is accessible by taxi or by hired car. Do not allow this to prevent you from having the experience of staying at this hotel. In the case of this hotel, the saying "we will return" is more than a statement, we...
