My travel partner and I had an overnight layover in Lima and we were planning on staying in the airport. However, customs pushed us out of the airport and we couldn't check back in until 3am. It was 1030pm when a taxi driver approached us and told us he would take us to this "very nice" hotel for 20 USD round trip and the hotel would only be 70 USD. After paying at the front desk (where the concierge assured us he was not inflating the price), we ran into a gentleman from Spain who paid 120 soles, roughly 35 USD for the same room. Within a span of 2 hours, we saw the same taxi driver bringing in client after client who got stuck in the same situatuon as us. Each traveler paid various prices depending on where they were from. We were not planning on staying in Lima, otherwise, we would have performed our due diligence on the area. Our taxi drivers name was Miguel and, surprise, he did not show up at 4 am like he promised to take us back the airport. Luckily we only paid him half up front (10 USD). A taxi driver who lived at the hostel charged us 20 for a "early morning price" for 1 way and it was non-negotiable. We had to make our flight so we partook. Please avoid these people and be aware if you are flying Avianca you can not check back in the airport. We did see some people sleeping in the airport hallway. I probably wouldn't recommend it with luggage. Excuse typos. I am still traveling. Other experiences in Peru...
