Double room with a private bathroom and TV was 60 soles per night. (I asked for a discount but they wouldn't give me one).||||I was given the room on the very top floor. It was very clean and spacious. There was a large double bed and a small single bed in the room. The bathroom was modern and clean. The shower was powerful and hot. Overall the room was great. ||||However the rest of the hostel was completely empty and looked like it had been empty for a while. I think the top floor room is the only one looked after and used, it looked completely different to all the other rooms. ||||I don’t think many backpackers head to Pimentel (because it’s rubbish, more of that at the end of the review). I wouldn’t have wanted any of the rooms on the ground floor of the hostel. It had a real hospital feel about the place and there was a funny smell.||||There is a kitchen for guest use but it’s not clean.||||There is no WIFI or internet. There is a small internet café just around the corner, near the main supermarket which had fast internet if you need it.||||There is a roof terrace with a view of the sea and the surrounding town (not attractive) but there are no chairs or tables up there.||||You don’t get a key for the main entrance, you have to ring the bell and wait.||||Overall the top floor room was perfectly fine and comfortable. You could stay a few nights there but why would you? Pimental has nothing to offer. If you need a one night stop to break up a long journey to Lima or something, go for it, but if not give it a miss.||||If you are wondering whether to go to Pimental or not, my advice would be DON”T GO. There is really nothing there. It is a pretty dismal town, pretty much all in rubble (they are redoing the central plaza but it’s not done yet). There is the odd fancy villa dotted around, but right next to something like this there would be a house in rubble. The beach is dirty; you wouldn’t want to swim there. Maybe if you are a hardcore surfer you’d go in. Also there are not very many food options, it’s basically the same sea food restaurant repeated 20 times. The restaurants also shut around 6.30pm-7pm so you’re in for a boring night!||||I went to Pimental to break up my journey down to Trujillo from the Ecuadorian border (from what I’d read on the internet Chiclayo wasn’t too great for sleeping, Pimental was the place the backpackers went to). I did debate whether to go to Mancora or Chiclayo/Pimental…….I clearly made the wrong decision! If you want the beach and all the fun that comes with a great beach town go to Mancora. Chiclayo/Pimental and really Trujillo (I went there also) are not really great beach options and are pretty dead now as it’s...
Read moreWe arrived there at around 4PM and wanted to park our 6, 3 meters / 20 foot - RV (camping car – casa rodante) in their parking lot which is next to the hostel. The old lady refused us parking because she thought that we were going to open the gate at night. She had no glue about self-sufficient RV’s with beds, kitchen, etc... Since there is no other camping spot anywhere within 200 km, we then decided to take a room for the 4 of us at 130 Soles. The owner Daniel who speaks English was extremely helpful and welcoming. He travelled all over the world and even lived in Finland. The next day, we gave him a guided tour of our vehicle. He then called his mother to explain her about RV’s. She eventually understood and apologised profusely. We then discussed the prices and terms & conditions for future over landers. From now on, the price is 20 Soles for 1 person and his vehicle. If there is more than 1 person then its 15 Soles per person and this includes parking, good wifi and access to 220 Volt electricity, the nice clean hot shower / toilet and kitchen inside the hostel. I think breakfast is optional at an extra charge? Note that their showers / toilets in the parking lot are very dirty because all the beachgoers come there to wash. That’s why I negotiated that future overlanders should be able to use the inside showers and bathroom. Make sure your electricity cable is at least 20 meters. If you arrive before 4 PM, you might not be able to park yet as the beach goers park their cars during the day. In this case, you wait until after 5 PM or so. They close and lock the gate at around 8PM. So rather avoid arriving late. Their phone number changed....
Read moreI was pretty disgusted by dusty, smelly Chiclayo and the expensive gross hotel I stayed in ( the Plaza Park, don't go there) so I came to Pimental to get away. I got a deal at this hotel - 45 soles for a spacious single room up some steps. The ground floor rooms smelled a bit damp. I had a good shower and the room was clean.||||I would disagree with the other reviewer about Pimental in that, although it is not a lovely swimming beach it does have a sort of local charm about it. If you want to see Peruvians out on a Sunday afternoon in summertime and not one single foreign tourist Pimental is the place to go!||I had some tasty chupe de pescado in a local restaurant and yes, they do close early. Pimental is not a party place, nor particularly attractive but a great alternaive to Chclayo if you are going to see the museums (worth it). I was grateful to find this place simply because I hated Chiclayo so much and at least here the air was clean and it was relatively traffic-free.||||The owner of the hotel will want to invite you to a beer and chat about the world ( he's very...
