Short one word answer: DON'T! Just DON'T!!!
Want a longer answer? Okay then: We arrived to find this half-finished hotel with large half-finished rooms and suits and even jacuzzi style tubs which I've rarely seen in Peru and frankly seemed a bit bizarre. Problem one: one of the bedroom doors was locked and the key didn't open it. Checked with the front desk ...no one had the key! Really? In a hotel? So finally a staff member climbed over the balcony and opened it from the inside (yeah...I know)! Anyway, settled in and used the toilet and the second problem began...no water when flushed. Same for the sinks...no water to wash hands. The very young front desk staff were "shocked...truly shocked" and offered us another room on the top floor with a spectacular view (though, again, the bare light bulbs and unfinished masonry suggested it was still under construction). Sat on the edge of the deep jetted tub to wash our dirty sandy feet and a few litres dark brown water came out...enough to soil the tub with sand and grit before that too went dry. Really? Again the "shocked" response at the desk and a new room and again the same routine. Repeated this 3 times before sleeping on rather unclean beds as we had arrived late in the afternoon and were too tired to complain any further. Fortunately the internet DID work so we could check previous reviews of the hotel. Despite the staffs award winning acting, previous reviews have been reporting the same issue for this hotel for ages! Dozens of reviews about hotel lacking water. I've got no idea how a hotel with no water gets a "3.8" on reviews but it is definitely worth reading the bad reviews and...
Read moreLast week we stayed a couple of days in Pimentel, a lovely seaside village near Chiclayo in Lambayeque. The website offered Puerto del Sol as having a terrace, 24-hour front desk, room service and free WiFi.||||"At the hotel, all rooms are fitted with a wardrobe, a flat-screen TV and a private bathroom".||||Our room was huge and had three beds. They were reasonably comfortable. The TV worked fine. We didn't get to see if there was hot water as the shower didn't work properly.||||The fridge was dirty and a health hazard.||||The hotel would have a lovely view of the beach, had it been possible to see through the grime on the windows. After we moved the empty cigarette packet left on the window sill we had a slightly better view. The free WiFi didn't work. The 24 hour front desk didn't have the codes.||||Breakfast, if it can be called that, consisted of hard bread rolls, and jam. Coffee was hot water and coffee sachets, no milk.||||The elevators didn't work. There was no offer to help us with our cases to the 4th floor. On the way to our room, the safety rail on the staircase came off in my hand.||||Fire extinguishers were missing. There were old bits of equipment left on each floor.||||We will not be staying...
