This was a true highlight of our trip to Peru for our honeymoon! The staff and guides around the jungle were amazing, very friendly and filled with knowledge to pass on about the local wildlife, culture, flaura and fauna!
All the excursions that were planned were great value, incredibly interesting and well organised. From seeing monkeys up close to sloths in the distance, caimens at arms reach to tarantulas as close as you dare, fishing for piranhas and visiting local indigenous people - everything was incredible. A particular shout out to Mirco who was our guide for almost everything and went out of his way to show us the very best of the jungle!
We were very impressed with the food that was served throughout. Being in the jungle we had fairly low expectations, but it was all delicious and with good portions. They were also very accommodating with our dietary requirements of no red meat and no dairy which was much appreciated.
The only downside of this trip is the amount of privacy of the accomodation, HOWEVER, this was very much known and expected from the description and so it wasn't an issue. It depends of your stance on this and how much you value comfort of the accomodation, but I would argue that having the basic accomodation is a positive for the full experience. It means that you can fall asleep listening to the sounds of the jungle, it means everyone spends lots of time in the communal areas chatting away and getting to know others guests, and it makes the experience feel much more authentic. Although the showers don't have hot water, this isn't really an issue as the temperature is so hot that a cold shower is really what you need after a day full of excursions. It just meant we shifted our schedule around to showering before dinner each day rather than first thing in the morning. They are also building new accommodation on site which looks really great.
Overall, I couldn't recommend this experience more and it is great value for money! I really hope to see Green House Tambopata continue to thrive and wish all the very best to all the wonderful people...
Read moreFantastic option near puerto maldonado but outside the hustle and bustle of the city. The facilities include rooms (mine had 2 double beds), dining area, hammock / lounge area, and a bar area by the Tambopata river. Buildings with room are simple and rustic, consisting of wood frames with mosquito screens. My room had two double beds covered with mosquito nets. I was grateful to be there when there weren't large groups of tourists, so the place did not feel cramped and I had my own room with its own bathroom. In the high season expect to share your room with others. Food is absolutely fantastic, and portions are quite sizable. Activites take place mostly on the periphery of Tambopata national reserve, with one excursion into the reserve (the precious Lago Sandoval). If you want to go deeper in the reserve (you'll need at least 4 full days), then look for accomodation around Lago Sandoval or the Tropical Research Centre/Rainforest expeditions. These will of course be much more expensive. With greenhouse, however, you'll still see an amazing amount of wildlife (freshwater, land, and in the air), including tons of tropical birds, caimans. Sergio the guide was a natural history encyclopedia. He was an amazing spotter, we saw the rare giant river otter in Lago Sandoval (there are...
Read moreI had an incredible stay at Green House Tambopata, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Puerto Maldonado! From the moment I arrived, Charlie Peña and his team made me feel right at home with their warm hospitality and deep knowledge of the region.
The accommodations were clean and comfortable, providing a perfect balance of jungle aesthetics, comfortability, and convenience. The serene atmosphere of the lodge, surrounded by lush rainforest, made it an ideal place to relax and unwind after long days of exploration. If you're up for it, an array of wildlife like parrots, sloths, and frogs can be seen during the day and night from the jungles that surround this beautiful property. Bonus tip, bring a headlight for short walks at night!
What truly sets Green House Tambopata apart is Charlie’s passion. His extensive connections with local ecotourism and research communities were invaluable, and he was more than willing to help arrange transportation, tours, lodging, and provide insider tips for exploring the region.
Whether you’re visiting for research, adventure, or simply to immerse yourself in the beauty of the Amazon, this place is a fantastic choice. I look forward to returning and experiencing even more of what Green House Tambopata has to offer.
Five stars all...
