Philippine Gateway Hotel|Its good they are undergoing renovation or else they will be overtaken by new hotels. Our room was renovated already. The wardrobe cabinet & beverage corner is very chic, has ample shelves/storage space in the room. The bathroom is wd soap, shampoo & toothbrush wd hotel logo, but floor tiles is slippery that caused us to slip several times in the shower area though not serious, no toilet paper holder & lavatory faucet is loose that may easily break; the shower area is cramped wd the ready made cubicle for shower, hot water is centralized not the portable type. Faucets are wd the convenient lever type. The beauty of the bathroom renovation was compromised by the work on the old door & jamb. Lacks mirror fronting the dresser/table since its behind the beverages. New beds wd adequate power outlets & light switches at the side. These are the marked improvements aside from fresh coat of paint. Their transformation is a work in process but rather slowww which shld have prioritized the lobby area that is still on going after several years. One of the few hotels in the area that has a swimming pool.||They have retained their buffet breakfast wc has at least 3 main choices, and 2 choices of fresh fruits. You can opt for a continental breakfast wd the choices. Service here was good. ||We attended a function at Sagisi and it is dirty. We stayed for 4nights without fixing their wifi. Parking lot has no overseer, you can park occupying 2slots and motorcycles & cars can park without consideration if other cars can easily pass.||Make-up of room is bad, they dont remove dirt sticking on the floor. Beddings has some insect that left me itchy on my legs wd bites. I found some things under the bed belonging to the...
Read moreIt's a $50 hotel in a Philippines province, so don't go in expecting high luxury.
We stayed in the Standard double and Matrimonial rooms (Queen bed). We liked the location and the restaurant is among the best in town...pricey at an average of ₱500 per ulam, but good. Beds are cozy, and the AC worked well.
The place had a pool, but they let anyone come to swim for a fee. Not just for guests, so it is constantly swarming with loud families and not cleaned enough to make me comfortable swimming in it. Great beaches within 30 minutes to an hour away, so go there.
Our first room had a great mountain view, but no balcony to sit and enjoy it with a drink or coffee in the morning. Our second room had a balcony, but it was facing the noisy and overcrowded pool and was only as wide as one chair and was filthy. Housekeeping obviously pays closer attention to the inside area.
Some rooms have smart TV, but you'll be using your own data, which we didn't mind. Still should be fixed for ₱2800 per room on average.
The staff was wonderful...front desk, housekeeping, and restaurant are all welcoming and polite and try their best to make your stay memorable. We started our stay at 3 days, then moved to a different room, then extended another 12 days. They worked it out for us.
My suggestion would be to bring ear plugs to sleep. It's a family friendly place. If the kids aren't noisy at the pool, the parents let them run around like an indoor playground. Typical Philippines life...no regard for the disturbance of others kasi...
Read morePhilippine Gateway Hotel is one of the biggest hotels in Surigao and really feels like a frontrunner in the city’s hotel industry. We were happy to avail their promos and discounts, and they even extended one for our 1-day stay that wasn’t covered in the promo duration. Our stay came with free buffet breakfast, use of the swimming pool, Wi-Fi, and even a free airport transfer—though we only asked to be dropped off at City Mall, the driver still gladly granted our request.
The room was very clean, spacious enough to fit four people even if it was good for two, and it came with a fridge and safety vault. There’s also free water for refills on the second floor. The staff were friendly and hospitable, but I think their turnover system and record-keeping could be improved, and it would help if they were more transparent about how discounts differ depending on whether you pay cash or via bank transfer.
It so sad that the aircon in our room was very old and noisy, though it still made the room very cold. The Wi-Fi signal was weak, and I noticed some cobwebs on the ceiling of the lounge area, water stains and dust on the glass windows and walls in the hotel, and uncovered unused items that made the place feel less maintained.
Overall, this hotel has the size, amenities, and staff to be a five-star choice in Surigao. With better cleanliness, transparency, and modernization of facilities, it could easily stand out as one of the best hotels...
