Pananayan Pension House — Hotel in Sabtang

The 5 star reviews have to be jokes. If this is one of the best that Sabtang has to offer, then I would be worried about other options. We got an upstairs room with air conditioning and dedicated bathroom. Look up at the ceiling and see the mold. Flying baby moths, and dead bugs stuck to the curtains bothered me when I laid down. There’s a shower curtain rod in the bathroom, but no curtain. The toilet tissue holder is far from the toilet, and over the side of the sink. Even if tissue was provided there is no roller rod to hold it in place. There’s a big plastic pail in the shower stall because the faucet and shower head system is rusted and doesn’t engage. The tabo provided is gross and we didn’t use it. Good thing we brought our own collapsible one. There’s an extra bath towel, but we had to use it as a foot towel because the floor gets so wet with a tabo bath and no curtain. Although we had a good seafood lunch last year (February 2024) with our tour group that only made a day trip, I’m not sure I want to try eating in the restaurant this year even though we’re staying a few days. This could be a nice place if only they would give each room the necessary TLC, but I think the management doesn’t really care. Can’t believe we’re spending US$53/night. We just previously stayed at Summit Tacloban - 4 star luxury- that I can compare to US Marriott hotels. We paid $43/night last week. It’s super close to the Sabtang Lighthouse and port, making it a convenient spot after our Sabtang tour. We paid ₱400 each, and the food was served as a surprise, which made it even more fun! The unique and tasty dishes were a delightful experience, and the serving size was just right. The view from the place is amazing since it’s a bit uphill, providing a beautiful panorama of Sabtang. Absolutely fabulous place to stay. Clean, Cool, Collective. It had the three C’s in my book that’s all that counts. Beautiful views and scenery really close to the lighthouse right on the beach. Absolutely will be back...
