Hotel El Ranilo — Hotel in Tacloban

We were shown the prices on the rooms, we booked the family room said good for 3 peoples on 2nd floor. We left went to dinner at Robinsons came back and my wife was given the room number on 3rd floor. We went up there and they had tried giving us there very worst and cheapest room, small bed and they through an extra mattress on the floor. I came down the very steep stairs and told them we were not staying in that room, no way was it family room. So they gave us a room right by the front desk. It had one bed, it also was not family room. I mentioned this and they gave us back some change. It was Christmas Day and I guess they were just trying to steal some money from switching us around. There was no power, no lights,, they ran a generator for 3 hours on and off. Better bring a flash light of your own. The staff was not kind after we were knowing of their little switch the room scam. No windows, no air, no lights. The best thing is we had a fan when the generator was running. I spent many years in the US Marines sleeping on the ground so the 3 inch mattress was ok. Tacloban just got hit by a mild typhoon December 24, 2019. So we were thankful to find a room but I think the staff taking advantage of the white person guest...

Right across the street is a red doors. Stay there instead. Same price and my encounters with red doors has always been good for a budget traveler. This hotel however...... well it’s not good. No toilet paper shampoo or any extras AT ALL. They are for sale at counter. How convenient. The toilet wall had cockroaches on it and a small very thin sheet for a blanket. The top lock inside door doesn’t lock , only the button on the door handle does. Not a safe area. Only good thing is close to bus Terminal and Robinson’s mall. But like I said so is red doorz...

El Ranilo's Microtel/Hotel El ranilo. The area is clean and nice. It is located close to Robinsons mall and is also a walking distance to New Bus Terminal in tacloban. Make sure to verify the google map upon going here as we have experienced going in the qrong way as there is another area being pinned on google map that is far from this area and is close to a place where there almost no people getting in. If you wish to stay here, better advise the driver to drop you off at robinsons north tacloban and then simply take a walk going...
