Even though I´d found the hotel on Streetview beforehand, I still drove past the entrance the first time round, but a few right turns soon had us in one of the two car parks behind this quiet hotel. Judging by our breakfast companions, it´s used extensively by businessmen visiting Bragança. The hotel´s a bit out of town - a 15-20 minute walk past the university to the old town and the castle, but worth doing. We had a wood-panelled attic room, comfortable and clean, on the top floor, which meant taking the lift to the floor below, and then stairs up to the room. One surprise - it was the only hotel on this trip that provided bathrobes and a stocked mini-bar in the room! The cups, saucers and kettle were also welcome; the absence of any tea, coffee or milk less so, but probably an oversight, and I´m sure if we´d asked they would have been provided. From our arrival the staff were very unfriendly, the manager made no effort to speak any language other than Portuguese when we checked in but he apparently suddenly learned to speak English when he rudely refused to even let us use a table to play a board game (apparently we were going to make it dirty). |The rooms are old and there are way too many insects (not mosquitoes or anything dangerous, but it isn’t pleasing to see spiders, trilobites and cockroaches crawling around). |The breakfast is really bad, very little choice and no...
