Arriving after a long drive, Nuno received my wife and me warmly, offered a welcome drink, showed us our lovely room (Sao Bento) in the main house, and gave us great advice about where to eat lunch in town, about the nearby castle, and things to do and see in the area. We learned that the property has been in Nuno's family for centuries, and that in recent years, after returning from Mozambique, they had lovingly restored the manor house and made many other improvements. Our room was furnished with lovely antiques, and was artfully decorated with objects collected from around the world. Guests in the main house are offered access to the massive but cozy library in their wing of the house. We were fortunate to be the only guests our first night, because we enjoyed a leisurely visit with them, complemented with a good port wine.|I don't know if this option is routinely available, but when asked Tita agreed to prepare dinner for us the second evening. It was ample and delicious and beautifully presented in the comfortable room where breakfast is normally served, adjacent to the kitchen.|My wife and I especially enjoyed long morning walks up to the castle, then returning to a delicious, breakfast with wonderfully fresh bread, coffee, home-made jams, eggs, cereal and yogurt, and more. The breakfast room overlooks a beautiful courtyard and inviting swimming pool, and other rooms.|We sincerely hope that Nuno and Tita will accept our sincere invitation to visit us in the Texas Hill Country where we enjoy similar rural life surrounded by our...
Read moreWe spent just one night in this B&B over the summer. The hotel is located in an old convent which makes for an historic setting. The owners were very friendly, sometimes a bit pushy (we had to take a juice upon arriving, whether we wanted or not). We enjoyed the very large pool and backyard, although the pool was pretty full of dirt because they had just mowed the lawn. The Wifi was very weak and had limited bandwidth, despite the very limited number of guests (6); this is definitely something they should improve. We received a free upgrade on the room (garden view) which was nice. The room was 'historic' but lacked a fly window so we couldn't really air the room without having lots of flies get in; the owners must be aware of this because there was fly swatter in the room!). The bathroom's main light had a motion sensor with timer which was terrible when I took a bath, as you can imagine! Most power outlets were connected to lights, so you could only charge a device with the light on. The area is very quiet but we were woken up by dogs. Breakfast started only at 9am, that is was extremely late for us (we had a long day in front of us). It was served on a common dining table so we had a chance to meet the other guests. The 'buffet' was very limited but the bread was delicious, they had fresh orange juice, and the owner made...
Read moreI would echo some of the earlier reviews here on the site. My husband and I had the pleasure of staying for two evenings here. After a mistake made by us on the dates of the reservation, the owners (Nuno and Theresa) were very accommodating in finding us a (last minute) room. They could not have been nicer or more welcoming, and were helpful in suggestions for things to do; places to see. In addition, we took up Theresa's offer for a light supper of delicious homemade soup with cheese and meats. We loved it so much we did the same for our second evening. After eating out for a few weeks, it was so nice to eat at "home." It would have been nice to have a third night there, there's definitely a lot to see if you have a car available! The building and setting is lovely, and had it been hot (it was not) we would definitely have taken advantage of the...
