Hotel Abade João Montemo o Velho — Hotel in Montemor-o-Velho

The highway exit to the hotel (14) was closed because of the fires. We had to take local roads and the GPS put us in the middle of nowhere... A very nice local couple offered to guide us, and they were using their phone for guidance. It was 30 min of lost roads, deserted abandoned industrial plants... we thought that we were in real danger! ||Finally, we saw a sign for Montemor and we breathed with relief. The man asked for directions to the hotel and we followed him to the closest point to the hotel, but we followed on foot because the street was "foot traffic only"... the hotel is on a very steep street, and the night staff told us to ignore the signs and get the car there. We did.||No toiletries, bad lock in the door, and a small hole in the wall under the mirror that went all the way to the other room made us unhappy. ||In the morning all was better! Great views, the Castle just up from the hotel, but the town is a quiet, ghost town with very limited offerings.||Next night again the exit was closed, and we obeyed the GPS that took us to a dirt road full of holes, no lights, corn on one side and the river on the other. Worse yet, we could see the flames quite nearby. That dirt road, took us to the hotel very fast.||AC and WIFI worked. Breakfast was good enough and it was a good value.||If exit 14 is open, it will take just a few minutes...

The hotel staff is really nice and willing to help the visitors. Also, the view from the room windows is spectacular (as is the whole region, actually). If you want to setup a "base camp" for visiting this part of Portugal, this might be a good option - quiet, with much to visit within a 50 km radius, not far from Coimbra and at a price not so high (50 euros a night for a double room).||Rooms themselves are not exactly luxurious and lack a few basic things like a decent TV with a decent choice of channels, Internet cable connection, window blinds (crucial if you want to wake up late - curtains are not enough...) and hangers in the closet (we had just one for two persons - try asking for some more, we didn't, actually).||However, cleanliness is impeccable, breakfast has a fair choice of items and, above all, the feeling of privacy and quietness will compensate for...

Totalmente enquadrado na zona histórica onde está inserido.|Como estava a decorrer um evento desportivo e nós éramos 8, não ficamos hospedadas no hotel. Mas foi aqui que viemos tomar o pequeno almoço. Este é opcional, pagamos 6€ por quarto/3€ cada. Um pequeno-almoço muito agradável, com artigos de qualidade (bom pão, bom mel, cereais, cafetaria, chás, queijo branco muito bom, bolos, fruta, etc). Café expresso de qualidade, tirado por uma pessoa da equipa, numa máquina boa - algo pouco comum em hotéis (bonus point)!!|Como não havia quartos suficientes, fizeram-nos a proposta de ficarmos no Campus Aquático, a 5 minutos de distancia. O Campus funciona como Centro de Alto Rendimento de Desportos Nauticos. É uma casa de campo moderna, com excelentes condições, com extras fantásticos como piscina, grelhadores externos, local para Yoga ou ginástica no exterior, um pequeno jardim, parque estacionamento, cozinha e refeitório, sala de massagens. |Os quartos são duplos, existem inúmeras casas de banho (fora dos quartos), a sala comum é bastante ampla e agradável. A zonaa piscina também é muito agradável, como fomos na primavera a zona da piscina não estava operacional (apesar de ter água, as cadeiras não estavam colocadas)!|A casa tem portão eléctrico e os carros podem ficar dentro, existe um pátio de estacionamento.|Limpeza 5 estrelas, simpáticos e disponíveis. Wifi gratuito e com bom sinal! |Sem duvida um local perfeito para grupos! |O pequeno almoço é servido no hotel (a 5 minutos), vale definitivamente o trabalho de conduzir até lá.|Nota: quando se chega à zona histórica, há uma placa que proíbe o aceso à zona do hotel, excepto moradores. Lembrem-se que estão hospedados lá por isso estão autorizados. Se não apetecer subir a rua de carro, então existe cá em baixo um estacionamento e depois é subir a pé (são 2...
