Três Marias — Hotel in Odemira

Wonderful place to relax and enjoy the Alentejo atmosphere. We quite liked the minimalist concrete room and loved the colonial chic of the communal lounges. This was the last place we stayed on our Vicentina coastal hike and is a very close second...almost equal first! We just felt our “welcome” when we were collected and taken to the hotel was not great and we felt very rushed as we were shown around. Nothing was really explained...and this resulted In a poor first night as we waited for dinner unnoticed and then had an extremely noisy ceiling fan which we couldn’t work out how to regulate. We couldn’t just switch it off as it was too hot. There was an unmanned reception with a number to ring but with the language barrier we thought it was easier to text our issues. We didn’t get a response but the next morning at breakfast the ownerBalthazar made himself known to us and discussed our issues. He was very professional and kindly explained things and helped us decide on a local hike for our “free” day. From that point everything was so much better not least a lower rate fan so no noise ( the control was in the fuse box...) and a good nights sleep. The bed was very comfortable with good quality linen. The food at dinner and breakfast was excellent and more than enough! Would highly recommend - just don’t be afraid to ask if there are issues and ask for Balthazar...

Booked 2 nights here ... to shake off the dust the city after a week in Lisbon.|A pleasant trip until the last couple of kms - following the signposts, you would be forgiven for thinking you had gone astray. The road is rough , uneven and dusty.... and not too kind to your cars suspension or bodywork. We did it in daylight and it was bad... must be so much worse at night!|That said... once you arrive .. a feeling of calm descends. Greeted by the resident donkeys and ostrich..... you take a moment to enjoy the spacious Alentejo landscape . |Check in was informal.... room was ready at 2.30pm. Rooms are basic ... no pictures or decoration ... but functional and the bed was spacious and comfortable.|Dinner... which needs to be pre-booked, was tasty and filling ... slow cooked ribs the first evening, and the nation's favourite .. Bacchalau (codfish) on the second. Wine was included. |First evening everyone dined together .... next evening we had separate tables.|There is an honesty bar which was nice , as there was not always anyonearound to order a drink.|Overall... a beautiful place in an amazing setting. Perfect if you want peace and tranquillity.... |A pool would be a huge addition... removing the need to leave the Tres Marie's at all !|We travelled to the nearby beach at Villa nova de Milfontes... where there are secluded coves and lots of places to...
