My wife and I ,who now spend many weeks in the summer travelling through Portugal, usually 3/ 4 nights at various Pousadas in the main cities and towns, decided to go off the beaten track for a short time and visit the very scenic region of Monsaraz, and it did not disappoint. Stunning place, beautiful lakes , well tended beaches and of course home to many famous Portuguese wines. ||But what really made the visit an unforgettable experience was Monte Alerta Turismo Rural ...a beautiful converted family owned farmhouse , lovely quiet and serene gardens with a generous sized pool, perfect for cooling down in , when the heat as it can do, became unbearable . ||even better was the air con in our bedroom ..it went all the way down to 16 degrees, which for Scots is an absolutely perfect temperature ha ha ||If I have one slight complaint is that they don't do evening meals ..but not to worry, there are a plethora of great restaurants nearby and all at very competitive prices.||If you want to see more of Portugal, other than Porto , Lisbon and the Algarve then I thoroughly recommend Monet Alerta Turismo Rural , Monsaraz , nearby Evora and the surrounding area...
Read moreI stayed there with my family (which includes two teenage girls). The owner is very nice and you can tell that there is pride in maintaining this establishment. It is modern, with the exception of WiFi - do not expect it. Also the dinner was very good! (You need to tell them by 5 if you are going to eat there). The breakfast was also good - fresh fruit, local eggs, home made pumpkin bread and there is also cereal and meats and cheeses (didn’t have these).||We also thought the pictures represented the place very well. In fact, this was commented on by my wife that the pics exceeded the advertising. The pool was also nice. The jacuzzi/outside hot tub we did not inquire about.||I read the negative comments... it appeared animal friendly to me - there was a family with a dog there and it was well behaved - be forewarned that there are feral cats in the area. ||Also, the place is clean and the gardening/outside is well maintained. ||One other negative comment was about lighting, we had no problems, but you are in a notoriously dark area. In fact, we came here specifically for the...
Read moreA pleasant rural location with views over surrounding fields as well as Monsaraz itself. It is only a five minute drive into the hilltop village. In the same family for many generations and converted from wholly farming to tourism in more recent years this has been sympathetically done resulting in a lovely property. Our room was a good size, well furnished, immaculately clean with a nice view over fields and towards Monsaraz itself. The outside space was especially pleasing. Various sitting areas for breakfast or daytime use and lots of sunbeds dotted around the large garden with a sparkling large pool in the centre. Breakfast was a buffet selection of good breakfast consisting of juice, cereal, yoghurt, eggs, ham, cheese, breads with jam, fruit selection and tea or coffee, all you need for a bright start to your day. A really enjoyable relaxing stay with friendly helpful...
