It was our third time(!) to Casa dos Condes with family and friends, and this time again we had such a great vacation, a perfect balance between quiet relaxation and cultural visits in the region. First the house: it is a big traditional Alentejo manor full of charm, and fitted with all modern amenities, that allowed those of us looking for a secluded getaway to relax in one of the many rooms, or chill out in the garden, by the beautiful pool, contemplating the various fruit and nut trees. We rented the manor with the service of Margarida, who cooked for us genuine, tasty and healthy Alentejo dishes with local products, as well as organic vegetables, fruits, and eggs from the property. The region is rich of historical landmarks: Roman ruins, and numerous castles, fortified villages and cities due to the proximity with Spain. Lovely saltwater pool and garden for the whole family to relax in and enjoy. Our hosts Paula and Constanca couldn’t have been been more helpful and responsive, with lots of great local tips. House was sparkling clean with lovely outdoor areas to eat at night. A visit to Estremoz flea market, paddle board and boating on the Barragem de Maranhão and a meal in Mercearia Gadanha restaurant in Estremoz were particular highlights.
