Hotel Acez — Hotel in Vendas Novas

On our way to Porto we stayed at this hotel for one night. When we arrived there was a baptism in full swing and the hotel was very busy. We were directed to the underground car park and then shown to our room which was more than adequate with an efficient air con unit which was a life saver in view of the fact that it was in the middle of August.||The room was traditionally and simply furnished with a generously sized bathroom complete with all the usual toiletries. The hotel has a lovely restaurant with an outside terrace but because of the function we were unfortuately able to take advantage of it.||The owner however made up for it by ensuring that we were well taken care of at supper time. She dressed one of the tables outside of the hotel in the cool and assigned a young waiter to look after us all evening. Together they ensured we had a very enjoyable meal and evening, recommending an excellent wine of the region. The next morning we were able to enjoy breakfast in the restaurant area and outside terrace and this was very well presented. Not worth the money but it’s the only hotel in town. I enjoyed the bath and the breakfast but the bed is the same as any 2star hotel in Portugal. What really upset me however was the laundry service: I was told by the night staff that I could wash my clothes which I did, hung them up to dry (because the dryer did not work), and in the morning I was presented with an invoice for 55 Euros for the laundry service. I certainly would not have washed my clothes if I knew it would cost 10 Euros, let alone 55. I guess I was naive but traveler beware! And maybe skip this...

When can arrive at the hotel, the building shows decrepitted from outside. But when you enter the courtyard, you see the real feel of the hotel - well kept and clean. The people at the rececption were very friendly. My room was good and clean. I slept well. The Wi-Fi was strong and fast.
