Hotel Opera Mamaia doesn't look like a proper hotel, it looks more as if a group of friends gathered around and tried to create one. The problem is they are clueless. Read this review until the end to find out why and check my pictures. The whole experience from beginning to the end was the worst possible to the point I regretted going to Mamaia all entirely. I stayed there for 2 nights and thought about heading to Bucharest again after the first night. When I read other people's reviews telling that the staff was rude I thought they were exaggerating but it turned out they were more than right. Their English level is the worst I've seen in a hotel to the point of not being able to communicate, but if at the very least, they were polite, I wouldn't have a problem with that. They do not know how to solve your problems because they don't even get what you are trying to tell them. Although this hotel looked like a ghost town with under 10 guests at breakfast they gave me a room with the worst possible view facing a construction site with noise all day long. I wouldn't ask for sea view since I didn't pay for it but at least a view facing the other side of the hotel since they had so many rooms. The beach bar was closed and the whole place looked like under construction, not ready to take customers. The sky bar was also closed and when I asked why the answer was 'summer time'. Other guests at different times found it closed so don't expect most services to be running during the year. At the very least they should warn clients in advance that most services are not working. When I got to breakfast they had no buffet! They told me I could order whatever I wanted without even having a menu to choose from. I thought it was a joke, I was wrong. I left my car at the park and every time I wanted in or out I had to get out of the car and go to the reception. Staff was very rude showing maximum disrespect to their guests. I felt more welcomed in a lot of 2 stars than I felt here. On a positive note, the cleaners were the only ones doing their job (place was clean as supposed to) but they still got inside my room when I had the sign not too, which for me it's a big privacy violation. Just so you can see how clueless this people are their website is unprofessional and they didn't even get the English language right there. I took a live snapshot of it in case they correct it in the future just to prove I was not lying about it. I doubt some of the reviews in here and I would leave it at that. All in all, it was a big mistake staying here and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Save your money for a place where people treat you the right way and work hard for it. Customer service is a minimum requirement for any kind of hotel. I went out of my way on this review because I don't want other people to go through what I've been. As they state on their website "you are looking forward meeting you".

Hotel Opera is very nice option for Mamaia, as it feels somewhat secluded in their little pool area/garden, although quite close to all the main attractions of Mamaia. The rooms are very spacious, with nice amenities and well-sized bathrooms. The views are great, either side-views or full sea-views (although the sea-view rooms might be a bit too noise-polluted from the pool area). The bed is very comfortable and spacious. The breakfast food options were quite amazing, with very tasty egg-variants and other fresh cheeses/pastries/fruits and the list goes on. Definitely one of the better hotel breakfasts you could wish for. We had the chance to eat dinner at the Hotel's restaurant which is very tasty, albeit a bit expensive, but that's a given with the location. The service however is lacking, as they seem to constantly be understaffed and waiting times could reach one hour to get a check or 40 minutes to order a drink by the pool. The hotel as a whole is not the cheapest, being on the more expensive side, but the overall worthiness is subjective to each traveller. One another big minus are the check-in and check-out times, which are a bit one-sided for the check-out which is way earlier than the check-in, making it a very short trip if you're only staying overnight. Overall the hotel is very nice, the pool is clean and sufficient and the beachfront is superb, but given the price and the somewhat slow staff, it's not the best.

I recently stayed at Hotel Opera and was pleased with the overall cleanliness and well-maintained facilities. The hotel itself is modern and comfortable, and I appreciated the attention to cleanliness throughout my stay. However, I was disappointed with the room I booked. I had chosen a partial sea view room, but the view of the sea was barely visible from the balcony, which was a letdown. Although the sea was creatively painted on the TV wall, it didn’t quite make up for the lack of a real view. Another point worth mentioning is the beach. It is full of seashells, making it difficult to walk without slippers on, something to consider if you’re looking for a more comfortable beach experience. Additionally, the hotel rooftop is full of 5G antennas, which I didn’t feel entirely comfortable sleeping under. This might be something to think about if you’re sensitive to such concerns. If you’re looking for clean, modern facilities, Hotel Opera is a good choice. However, if an authentic sea view, a more walkable beach, and concerns about the rooftop antennas are important to you, it’s worth checking further before booking.

On a three week trip to Romania to visit family and taking time to visit the Danube Delta, (see other review on the Hotel Lebada), we decided to stay a few days at the Black Sea and the Hotel Opera. ||The hotel itself is great, contemporary decor that’s bang up to date and situated on the sea with its own private beach. The hotel is also spotlessly clean. ||The rooms are well appointed with the usual four star appointments you would expect, though probably an oversight but the toiletries provided at the washbasin are bars of soap, but there is no soap dish, it’s the same washbasin you brush your teeth in, so where do you put the soap?? Small but important for hygienic people. Beds are comfortable and the rooms kept impeccably clean, top marks to the cleaning staff. ||Breakfast is superb, plenty of choice for any taste, however always a shortage of fried eggs, however with the exception of one young woman on clean up duty, a woman making pancakes and a gentleman busy taking food to the buffet area, the staff were awful, not attentive at all, standing in groups on phones or chatting muttering under their breath when told to do something by a manager or a customer really very poor. Oh the Barrista was also helpful if you could get his attention. ||Reception staff were not very helpful, it always seemed that you were bothering them with basic requests and they had better things to do than interact with customers. ||The beach team were often shouting at each other, not with great language, which showed a lack of care for customers with younger children. ||The Luna restaurant, is it a restaurant or a terrace? Smoking in a public restaurant is not legal in Romania, it is on a designated terrace, smoking is actively encouraged as there are ashtrays on every table, so is it a restaurant or not? No clarity from staff that’s for sure.. non smokers avoid this area unless you enjoy passive smoking. ||All in all great hotel, unfortunately let down by the staff representing the business, with a...

TO SUM UP: If you like sleeping - Don't come here.

We stayed in Hotel Opera for 4 nights in the beginning of September 2021. There was extremely loud music outside on 2 of those nights until way past midnight.

Once, as each weekend the club (which is right next door) is hosting parties until 2-3am or so. Very loud bass as well that you can feel in the bed.

The 2nd time was a wedding at the hotel itself (which of course nobody told us about when we booked it nor when we arrived). Loud music, loud people screaming - until about 1am.

Keep this in mind: We stayed on the 9th floor (the highest) at the side-view room, the windows are thick, I wore earplugs for sleeping. Still - I heard the screaming and the music, so you can't escape it - especially if you are sensitive to noise.

The next morning, when we complained about the noise, we were offered a free dinner as compensation. At least that.

However, the hotel did something very sneaky: 2 hours after we complained, they cancelled our reservation at booking.com - which prevents us from submitting a review. (They knew we would rate them badly for the loud music) It is not possible to reverse this, even though we stayed at the hotel obviously the entire time - it's a loophole in the review system.

To sum up:

Pros: Great beach Loved the hotel design

Cons: Very loud music that can also happen during the week if you are unlucky. In September, the pool area is in the shadow from 13:00 Sneaky manager that tricks the system to avoid bad reviews. Restaurant is just ok - not too crazy - go to CARBON which is next door, the food is...
