Me and my girlfriend decided that we needed a break from our work schedule so we took a day off and we booked a whole weekend at the “Puflene Resort”. The moment you pass through the main gates of the resort, you realize that you are away from any city and you begin to get along with nature. It is a mixture of wildness and human comfort. On the one hand, you get to see nature in its amazing shape. On the other hand, although you are very close to nature, you feel like you don’t need much, because the resort comes very in handy with your needs. It is kind of a nice feeling, indeed. Right next to the parking spot, there is a big field where you can choose to play either tennis, football or basketball. When we arrived there was a group of children playing a semi-kind of football. They were very cute and, even though they didn’t look like to know much about what they were doing, they seemed to enjoy their time very much. So we went to the reception to take our room key. The ambience was clearly of a vacation-mood. The personnel was very appealing and friendly. They even came with us to show us where our room was located. The room was large, clean and I really enjoyed that the air conditioner was waiting for us turned on. The temperature was really high outside, but when we got into the chilly room, it was absolutely perfect. The bathroom was also spacious, clean and chilly. Then we went to the restaurant, because, obviously, we were really hungry. Both the food and the drinks were diversified and from what we’ve seen from other plates, they looked also delicious. We took some fish and chicken along with two types of sauces and some cooked vegetables. We didn’t expect that the portions were so big, we even struggled to finish. They were delicious, indeed, well cooked and very tasty. There are a lot of paths along the resort which you can take to admire the nature. We have even seen a swan very close to us. It was very very beautiful! There is a big pool outside where we relaxed, drank an orange juice and played in the water. The sunset from there is simply amazing. It makes you feel unique and appreciated. You just want to sit by the side of the pool and watch the amazement of the sun. We really loved walking along the resort in a relaxing, silently mood. The calmness and the green of the nature make you forget about your problems and daily routine. There is also a big tower, where you can climb and have a panoramic view. I honestly was not up for, because I am afraid of heights. There are also games in the nature for children and a few bungalows for those who want to live as close to the nature as possible. It takes some time to get used to the whole resort, since it is huge and you really have a lot to see. We enjoyed our time here and we didn’t even realize when the time passed. We will...

The property has large, nice grounds including an observation deck, a very nice playground suitable for small children and a very big swimming pool in need of retiling. The hotel is more of a 2-star/unkept 3-star category with a really crappy bathroom - however you can rent a suite. Nobody should put 4 stars on a hotel that gives a general liquid soap, affixed to the wall, for all bathroom duties.
The restaurant has generally mediocre food (except the "saramura de crap" which was amazing), service was extremely uneven varying from completely attentive to completely inattentive. Breakfast was very poor in terms of options and quality.
Strangely we couldn't rent a boat from them even when we offered to pay for all the seats. We had to go to the pier and rent privately.
The accommodation is otherwise moderately priced (~EUR100/night), and the restaurant relatively expensive by Romanian standards if you include the wines (which were good though).
The staff at the reception seemed incompetent and a bit hostile.
Beware of mosquitos during mornings and evenings. Best to come prepared with in-room tabs or - even better - liquid repellent, preventive lotions and post-bite lotions (unlikely that you'll escape, given the sheer numbers of insects). The hotel does nothing that I could see in this regard except sell some overpriced stuff that doesn't cover everything you need.
The Danube Delta is amazing and well worth visiting, but I'd go somewhere else instead of...
Read moreExtensive resort at the edge of the Danube Delta. Be aware of the mosquitoes which are everywhere in the area.
The grounds are really nice and well though of. The swimming pool is large, the children play areas big. There are various other things to discover there.
The rooms are more of an unkempt 3 star hotel instead of a 4 star. Make sure to bring your own anti mosquitoes electric device, as well as some sort of on-body repellant such as a 30% Deet solution. The range they sell at reception is quite limited and will not be enough if you come unprepared.
The restaurant is decent but nothing really special. Still, good enough considering there's no other alternative. Dinner, and dusk in general, is surrounded by mosquitoes and they have no spiral burners or anything of the sort in the restaurant (they really should have!).
Breakfast was awful.
Staff is pretty slow and not particularly polite, although you can find exceptions - we had one waiter on the first day who was simply amazing.
The thing to do in the place is to take a boat to the Delta for a tour. The hotel itself has boats, but they cannot be hired in private (you get a seat on the boat), even if you offer to pay for the whole boat (!!!). The alternative is to walk 5 minutes outside the grounds to the mooring, where there are many many boats to hire. A private boat with 6 seats (9 if you squeeze) set us back about 200 euros for a day.
A good day trip through the delta from Puflene is to Sulina, about 2...
