It was a Saturday in August – peak tourist season - and all the hotels in Sighetul Marmatiei were booked. I found this place, essentially a guesthouse, searching on line. I called and they told me that there was one room available. It is a bit out of the way and you need the help of a GPS to find it. I almost changed my mind when I arrived at the end of the paved road (actually, the unpaved part is just couple of hundred yards) but the alternative – to drive to another town late in the evening was not too appealing. ||||I pulled into the courtyard of the house looking for a reception but instead from the kitchen came a woman festively dressed in the traditional attire of Maramures, and she showed me the room. The room was cozy and private and gave you the feeling of being the guest of the house. They had a restaurant as well and she asked me if I needed the dinner. I did not but then she asked me to come to the dining room anyway because they had a folkloric show. The show was quite good.
