This is a typical mini-hotel in St. Petersburg. However, the service was exceptional. We stayed for 9 days and were upgraded to a superior room on arrival. The bed was kingsize. We had a desk and seating area in the room, with access to a balcony. There was a mini-fridge and facilities for preparing tea in the room (we preferred to take tea and snacks in the dining room - open 24 hours). Meals were available whenever requested - simple, Russian style and home cooked. Most staff spoke only limited English, but my wife speaks Russian, so this was not a problem for us. However, even nor-Russian speakers should be able to get by. The actual owner was regularly present and supervising, so standards were maintained throughout our visit.||||The room was very clean, towels, sheets regularly changed, slippers and gowns provided (our room had no air-conditioning). Hot water seemed to be on tap 24 hours a day. The location on Vasilyevskiy Island is a little removed from the city centre, but there is a metro station only about 10 minutes walk away and the main drag (Nevsky Prospect) is only 2 stations away. The immediate area, just a stone's throw from the Courtyard Marriott Hotel, is quiet, but safe and security at the hotel itself is good. There is secure parking within the entrance courtyard, if you happen to have a car, with a gate locked at night. ||||I would recommend this mini-hotel to anyone adventurous enough to try a more local experience than you will get in an international chain hotel. You will get a very warm welcome. It is certainly not a 4 or 5-star hotel, but then it does not charge 4 or 5-star rates either! Michael & Elena,...
Read moreStayed at this hotel with my cousin for 3 days in july. The staff at the hotel is super nice and friendly!!!! Very easy to find it but it is a pretty far walk to Nevsky Prospect (we are talking about a good 25 min walk). It is located on the island of Vasilevsky ostrov and u have to make sure you plan accordingly because of the bridges that will be seperated at night. Metro is about 10 min walk from the hotel but you have to keep in mind that metro system in SPB is not great because of the many historical sights and that means you have to be ready to walk from the metro or to the metro for quite some time. Other than that, the hotel is super nice and clean, always friendly staff ready to help you. Had a great stay at the hotel!!!! Taxi is very expensive around the city so if you dont want to walk for many kilometers i advise you to learn more about public transport. Saint Petersburg is worth...
Read moreSpent a week at the Tuchkov during the White Nights festival and Scarlet Sails celebration. Our room was small but clean and comfortable and the staff were very friendly; a little knowledge of Russian will come in very handy but is not necessary. The nearest metro station is a short walk away. The breakfasts and snacks were good. The Tuchkov is on Basil's Island (Vasilievskii Ostrov) which suited me, but some might find it involves too much walking - also night owls should beware of getting temporarily stranded on the wrong side of a river at night when bridges go up to let shipping through. Also, if you're coming back late be sure you get full instructions for the push-button lock to...
