Set in nice grounds but the hotel itself is outdated & in need of modernisation - in particular, the bedrooms require some new furnishings & decoration. My room stank of stale cigarette smoke which was most unpleasant, causing me to have to sleep under the covers. Despite complaining they didn't offer to change my room, altho' the bedrooms were otherwise clean enough but not worth what we were being charged... ||||This is very basic accommodation at an inflated price! - Meals were standard - nothing special & the dining room lacks any ambience. The staff weren't that helpful or friendly generally speaking - (possibly a cultural thing but customer service goes a long way)! ||||However, what really angered me was the fact that I booked to stay on an extra 2 days, having already been there for 5 days facilitating a 3-day training in the hotel meeting room (with up to 20 participants also staying on a full-board basis - therefore, a considerable amount was being paid to the hotel in total). My point being, I expected to relax in those last couple of days & had noted the hotel has a swimming pool, sauna & hot tub. When I enquired where these facilities were, I was informed you have to pay to use them... The website says absolutely nothing about this & does not give a price; in my experience hotels allow their guests to use the facilities advertised... Still, I would have considered paying a small fee but was so shocked when they told me how much - Now wait for it... 4,000 rubles to avail of the sauna's - that is £80! ||||Sinful!! - I really don't know how this can be justified, it is wholly `un-christian' & simply plain greedy. Whatsmore, the Russian participants didn't rate the hotel either & said that it just goes to show that one should never believe advertising having seen the picture on the web & the (grotty) reality... Never again... Not cheap but nasty and the picture of the patriarch in every room pretty creepy. I will suggest to the logistics company they do not use this hotel in...
Read moreI had the pleasure of staying here from December 17-21 2018, and it is the fourth time I've stayed here. The staff are wonderful - and I'd recommend anyone to talk with them, and listen to their stories. The restaurant's food (especially the fish in skillet!) and atmosphere is wonderful, as is the spa, and the local monastery opposite. The rooms are good, and the beds are so warm and comfy! I always feel comfortable here, and I will come back. Thank you for four wonderful stays.||||I like everything about this hotel, and the fact that it's undergoing improvements will hopefully manage to restore its former 4-star status. A couple of suggestions I would have, is, firstly, that the mini-cafe on the 2nd floor doesn't seem to have prescribed opening times or a dedicated staff member past 7pm. It's a nice addition to this hotel's experience, and would add to that feeling of homeliness that this hotel is so good at providing. Also, when the restaurant is being used for parties, it would be great to have a calendar giving guests more advanced notice of this, because I love eating in the restaurant, and having a late night cappucino in the...
Read moreStayed for four nights during the FIFA World Cup. The hotel is perfectly situated in a monastery park a five minutes walk from the Tulskaya metro (grey line) that takes you to the city centre or elsewhere in 10 - 15 minutes. The architecture of the hotel is not worth writing about, but the inside is ok. Well functioning bathroom, daily cleaning, a hard mattress and good sleep quality. BBC News on TV. English speaking staff at the reception. Breakfast was a little bit under average compared to Scandinavian standards due to the low quality of bread and lack of fresh food, but you have several other...
