"Mergen Bator" — Hotel in Ulan-Ude

The day we arrived some strange things happened: |When we arrived at the reception we got a very warm welcome.|Unfortunately our room cards didn't work at all.|We could not use the elevator nor open the door to our room.|Thus we always had to call somebody from the reception what was really annoying. Our cards needed to be changed three times in the end until everything worked well.|Moreover we didn't get the room we had booked so we had to wait for a while until we got another room. We came from a lovely train trip around Lake Baikal to Ulan-Ude. What a great city! We loved every minute of our short stay. And the Mergen Bator Hotel made our visit to Ulan-Ude even more memorable. The location of the hotel is perfect - 7 min taxi drive from the train station and a 5 min walk to the city center (Lenin head). The check-in was very swift and all staff member spoke good / very good English; especially Mrs. Dara was all the time extremely helpful. Our room was spacious and very clean and the beds allowed for a very restful sleep. The hotel restaurant was also very good and we ate twice there. Probably the best hotel in the city, although I must admit that other hotels I just saw from outside or from the lobby.||Quality/price ratio is good. It is not the cheapest hotel in Ulan-Ude, but you get a big room (I had a standard room) with a good bathroom. You can use the swimming pool and sauna's for free. The location is good, only 5 minutes walk from the main square and close to the railway station (use the pedestrian overpass).
