Check in at 2pm. They called me at 12 pm to make sure I am coming and I told them I will be at hotel around 6 pm and I told them if that possible that 2 rooms connected if not must be on same floor. They said yes and confirmed everything to me by phone that the rooms will be ready and rooms will be connected. I arrived at 6pm and the receptionist said we do not have rooms ready for you and you have to wait 1 hour or 1 hour and half to get rooms. Really unacceptable I am traveling by car with family for 5 hours and tired when arrived with very irresponsible tone from receptionist man saying no room available for now and you have to wait. I said to him you hotel called me and confirmed that I will be at 6pm and my rooms should be ready to check in. After waiting for 40mints he give me 1 room I said we are family how half of us check in what about second room he said you have to wait no ready room really first time I face like this situation for my long experience traveling to many countries and even in Saudi. Because I have kids and they are tired I accept that room until second room gets ready. Now start things get worse I said ok give me that room he said no pay first for this room I said I will pay once for 2 rooms my booking for 2 rooms. Then I paid for one room because can not discuss more since I tired. And that room was vey smelly and not well cleaned. I took my family to that room and after about 30 minutes I went down to tell them the room not cleaned and has bad smell and where is the second room. Nothing happened and he said second room still not ready and for smell we can change the room. Then I said to him who’s the manger or supervisor I want to talk to him. he pointed to me for a men thats I think cleaning or services supervisor I forgot to ask him. I explained everything to him and he cam with me and changed the room from smelly room on 7th floor to 9th floor. Then I said to him my booking for 2 rooms and fortunately the room which he gave to me has connected room also was not ready, but he called cleaners to come and make room ready. In this time I went to reception to tell them about second room and the number of that room. He said no that room we can not give to you I said why he says not available I said that supervisor came with me he says we will get it ready for you. I settled on next room. The receptionist said not available and supervisor said will make it ready. Long story short. Finally the talked each other and after I got the second room and paid the remaining. This whole story took around 2 hours after my arrival. First and last time going to this hotel and will not recommend to any one I know he is going to Al Khobar to stay...

I've extended my stay, experience has been great so far and the Movenpick staff were very supportive and attentive. Plus I added more photos
Update (3/8/2021)
Breakfast is now a buffet again as of today. The food was much better because we got to pick from what we liked (Breakfast photos in gallery)
Update (2/8/2021)
Movenpick have contacted me to resolve the concerns I've had during my stay.
They've changed the office I work on completely, with a more comfortable chair
They've told me they are looking into the issues of double-checking the vaccine certificate
They've changed my room to compensate for the sea-view
Due to the above I've changed my rating. So far the experience has improved because of this and I'm looking forward till the end of my stay
End Update -
I was expecting better from a 5 star hotel. There's so much that's wrong I'm not sure where to start.
They will check up on your vaccination certificate every.single.time you enter the parking, and minutes later will ask you again when you enter the hotel. This is very tiring and annoying having to repeat this process for 5 days. There's no synchronization between staff whatsoever
Hideous Breakfast: There's no buffet anymore, only ordering and the quality of food has dropped drastically post-covid. Some of the food we got served was soggy and terrible, other things looked like they are 1 or 2 days old
Very uncomfortable office! This one is a disaster, the office desk in the room was built as a nice decoration and not for practicality and work. The chair is very uncomfortable to point where I had back pain. I asked for an actual office chair they said we don't have any.
I paid extra for the sea view, well guess what - the sea is so far from the hotel that it's merely visible. If I had known it was that far I would have not paid for it, I felt ripped off (check added photo).
I still have 3 days left in this hotel and will update the review with more good or bad...
