Pension Slovakia — Hotel in Ždiar

This is a decent, family run b&b, but do not expect anything special. Good points were that all was clean, the beds comfy, the breakfast was really nice, the owners friendly and the location close enough to the local slopes (walking distance 10-15 minutes). On the opposite our apartment for four, and especially the bathroom, was too small, so we struggled to dry our skiing gear plus towels plus anything else getting wet in the snow. As the rooms where then quite cluttered with drying stuff they where not particularly inviting... The WiFi speed was a joke, streaming was very difficult. We booked half-board (dinner) which was convenient as we could stay in after a day skiing, but the food became a bit boring after a few days and it could have been better and varied. The most annoying was all the little things which could be fixed with very little money or time, e.g. no fixture for the shower head, so you have to hold it all the time - very annoying; the kitchen sink clashes with the cupboard door, so you have to lift the sink to open the door; on the day of departure with loads of new snow a very relaxed landlord who did only clear the snow of the parking lot and private road after highlighting that we need to leave on time at 9.30! - it was then done in 20 minutes etc. etc. etc. Keep in mind that the parking lot is 50 meters up a bit of a steep private road - not a problem in summer, but can be tricky with a bit of snow around and a not so enthusiastically cleaning landlord... You can't pay by card there, witch is not clearly stated on booking.com, and the nearest ATM machine is about 3 km away. However, the worst downside of the place is its touchy owner, who when we advised him to correct the description on booking.com, snapped, yelled at us and gave sexist remarks (that women always make a fuss).

What can I even say? The rooms were clean and very spacious. The food at breakfast was excellent and there was more than enough of it (everything was made fresh and was regularly replaced so the counter was always full). Dinner was served plated up, but there was so much of it that we often struggled to finish it even after a day of hiking.
