Hotel Smokovec — Hotel in Vysoké Tatry

High Tatry is a beautiful place for those, who like nature, and are happy to discover amazing views going higher, but not necessary being a professional mountain explorer. It’s a place for everyone! ||First time we came to High Tatry we stayed in the other hotel. But then we found “Smokovec”, and the other time booked it for our holidays. Since then, we stayed there already many times, probably starting from 2005. We were very satisfied with our room (normal size and clean), services, and the beautiful Mountain View from the hotel balcony. Portions in the hotel restaurant were really big, tasty, and extremely good value for money. It has always been nice to stay in Smokovec. However, in the last couple of years, situation changed to worse. Breakfast became poor, almost nothing to take. Dinner portions also became smaller and have fewer options to choose something good. WiFi internet signal is weak, because of some problem, which none is fixing. To connect to internet you should stand close to the reception, and that also doesn’t guarantee you will have success. Rooms are still the same good and the view from balcony too. ||The hotel doesn’t guarantee your car will be safe in their parking, that’s true, but at least you have guaranteed space from back side of the hotel to put your car close to the place you stay. ||The other services hotel is offering are: a small swimming pool with sauna. It is one of the options where to spend your time in case bad weather happens in mountains during your stay. One other thing to recommend in is a massage treatment. It’s an extra charge service, but the feeling is amazing. Please don’t hesitate to try, and you will be addicted. The woman doing it is a real professional and has a great experience! ||P.S.: We usually were coming to Tatry for mountain hiking, and the location of hotel is perfect for that sports. As I understood, for lovers of skiing activities in winter there are better places in Slovakia or even if you wish to choose Tatry region, Polish side of these mountains called Zakopane is more developed for skiing, but more...

We spent our New Year's week in this hotel for the first time (... and probably the last). The location is one of the best, everything is at hand: train station (if you want to get between the ski resort and have a hot wine ... as the alcohol limit is 0% in SK), by car all the main ski resorts are close, as well as aqua parks. ||This was quite all the good part ... now the rest:||- you just can not find a person in the staff that really speaks English ... (or more than 2 words), maybe some German .. but the words are still basic ... you can get a beer and maybe a simple dish||- during a week stay the cleaning was done only based on request ... i wonder if we just didn't say anything ... ||- there is no hair dryer in the room, so if you get later from the slopes or from wondering in the city ... you can't get any from the reception either, as they are all taken ... i cough a cold after the second time :(||- we had a HB stay, with a quite limited breakfast (but if you get in early you can have ham, cheese, milk .. eggs .. it's quite a good average breakfast), but if you get later than 9:30 .. refills are hard to get .. and the English topic steps in again .. a glass of milk is an adventure :). Dinner was just a CAP to it all: there was a 3 choice menu each day ... (it's been a while since I could not get any decent Dinner in Europe in a 3 or 4 stars hotel) ... we ended up with ordering all 3 each night (as we were two couples) just to eat something. An experience not worth to remember.||All in all i would recommend the hotel for the location, with options for eating close (e.g. Koliba restaurant is just 200 m away) or having breakfast on the slopes...

Great place. Dispute that this hotel is 3 star it is very good. service is very nice and helpful and will provide you additional information about things in Vysoke Tatry. rooms are clean and big. the furniture is not the newest but what do you need more then get a good sleep and dry your stuff. heaters are plenty and warm. beds are comfortable. breakfast was plenty of choices and food. lunch and dinner we had in attached restaurant which is connected internally so you don't have to step outside to get in. and the menu is huge and all the food tasty. you even have Coffee and cake in the price included and this place is also internally connected with the restaurant. there is also pool with sauna but you have to register for a specific time. nothing that would cause a problem....
