Whilst the bed was comfortable and shower room fine and location good, there were several disappointments with our week’s stay at Villa Kunerad.||||Although only 2 of us, we had booked a triple room as we hoped this would give us a little extra space but our accommodation, room 4, was quite tightly packed with a single bed and large double bed, along with 2 small ‘comfy’ chairs and a tiny, round glass table squeezed into the main room. The chairs and table, initially, prevented access to one side of the bed and there were limited options for moving them to make access better. One chair had to permanently sit in front of the single bed, at the foot of the double. ||||Off the hallway, which has a good-sized wardrobe with plenty of hanging space and shelves, is the shower room/toilet and a very narrow breakfast bar – again only with seating for 2 (thin!) people – along with a small fridge, sink, microwave, kettle, crockery and cutlery.||||We arrived late afternoon on a Friday in heavy rain and storms so it wasn’t until the next day that we realised there was a hotel being constructed beside Villa Kunerad. Fortunately, no one worked there over the weekend, but from Monday till the following Friday we were woken, always before 7, and even as early as 6:30 by the noise of the workmen chatting, angle grinders, radios blaring… Alongside the noise, we also lost our privacy in both the bedroom and shower room with these windows being overlooked by anyone working on site. Although the hotel looks to be a significant way through its construction, there will always be an issue with privacy on that side of Villa Kunerad as the new hotel rooms have windows and balconies looking directly into the Villa. It is also worth noting that there is another, identical, hotel being built alongside this one which is not as far down the line so the noise will continue for a long time.||||We appreciate that this situation is not ideal for Villa Kunerad – a family run business – after all they still need to make a living but we were disappointed that they didn’t forewarn us – giving us the choice as to continue with the booking or to...
Read morePros: nice building with garden, there is a water stream nearby and kids can play outside. Contactless check in. Good location. Close to the heart of Stary Smokovec. Cons: ohh a lot... We were not given any informarion upon checkin. A girl alone gave us keys and that's it. Looks like she is the single employee doing all duties on site. Even responding to mails and calls. There is no reception or emergency contact. Accessibility - we spent 20 minutes to find it by car. There are very small signs on street and only visible from 1 direction. We had to call them 2 times because we saw the place but couldn't find the way in by car. At winter, with icey roads, it can be a problem. The room: I think we got the smallest and most problematic room, even though I let them know several times that this is our honeymoon. The "kitchen" is so small, that you cannot move around, have to squat just to throw trash into the bin. Small and very noisy fridge. Very hard mattress, our backs hurt. Noisy plumbing. Every time you opened the water, a gurgling sound kept coming from the sinkhole for 2-3 mins. No daily cleaning. We were provided with 1 toilet paper roll for 3 night stay. We could not ask for resupply because we did not know whom to ask. Lack of heating control. Apparently there is floor heating and you cannot regulate it. It is on 24/7. We slept with open windows each night (3C outside...) because the room was so hot... Thin walls. We practically heard everything happening in next rooms and on corridor. Some people were talking loud even at 3 am. Wifi: you get max signal but the Internet does not exist. You cannot even load Google search. And one more: They do not serve earl grey tea at breakfast. :(
The villa could be a much better palce if someone in management or ownership just cared about it and performed regular maintenance. I saw some of these facility issues mentioned in 2 yr...
Read moreVilla Kunerad was very inexpensive compared to all the fancy, pricy tourist hotels in the High Tatras. We found it to be clean and comfortable, quiet and cozy, and very conveniently located within walking distance of the train station, the shopping district, and the funicular train to Hrebienok for hiking. The owner, Josef, speaks English and was very friendly. Our room was simple, but spacious, and the bathroom was updated with modern fixtures. The breakfast was 5 EU each, but it was very good, with a nice assortment of choices to fill us up before our day of hiking in the mountains. We were pleased to eat such a delicious breakfast at the hotel before getting all bundled up for our winter hike. (Breads, cold meats, cheeses, vegetables, yogurt, cereals, scrambled eggs freshly made when we came to the breakfast room, and an assortment of beverages including several juices, many varieties of...
