Kalahari Lion's Rest — Hotel in ǁKhara Hais Local Municipality

I stayed at Kalahari Lion's Rest on the 21st of December 2017. While the plus points for us were clean rooms, the location is quite safe and away from traffic & it's in close proximity to attractions such as the Desert Palace (A nice hotel with a Casino, Restaurant and place for the kids to play) within a 5 minute drive and the Kalahari Mall not too far a drive away (5-10 minute drive), some negative points to note which made our experience an unfortunate one are:

1. We had booked for the downstairs room because I have a little one and just thought safety wise being on the ground floor would be better, unfortunately, we were told that some someone took our booking even though we had already paid. (We later found out that they had given people the room because they were travelling in convoy with two other guests and wanted to be on the same floor)
2. There are only shower's and I prefer a bath.
3. The was only enough coffee, tea and sugar for one person instead of two, however, when I asked for more (for one more person) there was no problem.
4. When breakfast was served there were no seats available, I think this could have been avoided if it was planned better.Also when breakfast was served, our food had been left out on the table, it wasn't covered so flies were on it. When asked if they could make another plate of food, they just fried the eggs again and warmed the sausages and bacon. However, breakfast also consisted of 1 juice, 2 different coffees, bread, cheese, yoghurt, cereals and fruits. I had hoped breakfast would be a redeeming factor, but it was not.
5. In the description, it says that the property is located on the banks of the Orange River, you have to literally squint to see even a peak of the river.

I've been travelling the world for 16 years and have lived in various accommodation types. I personally don't think this place is family friendly, the log cabin, especially the upstairs part feels like if you take the wrong step you could fall through.

Overall I didn't have the best experience since I didn't get the room I paid for, the breakfast was just terrible since we were expected to eat food that had flies on it. However, if you are looking for an overnight stay or won't be in the room or on the premises much then it would...

What a peaceful place to stay.The staff is friendly and not annoying.I like that they have all essentials you need on your stay.Air conditioner, microwave, cattle, cutlery, salt and pepper, tea, & coffey (sugar and milk) with 2 Morning biscuits. , fridge, towels, warm linen with extra blankets & bathing liquid.

For entertainment: they have television (with dstv) and Wi-Fi.

What I liked the most: Is their comfortable bed and a wonderful view in the woods!

What I did not like: is the shower that you need to adjust since hot water can come unexpectedly and burn you.YOU SHOULD BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THAT - I BURNED MYSELF.

One more thing I liked! They offer ear plucks in case you don't want noise from the woods and neighbours.

Extra info; the whole accommodation is made of wood material and its very clean.

Advise: If you are not driving yourself and using transport services - have Kalahari Lion Rest directions closer to you as I realised that most drivers do not know it.

The place is not at all far from Upington airport and Kalahari Mall.

What to bring: dish washing liquid and the wiping cloth.They do not have that...

Clean sheets, towels and a room with an aircon in a very hot Upington is really all you need! We stayed at the bottom level, everything is wooden as you can see in the photos so it might be noisy for light sleepers as you can hear your neighbors if they walk or talk above average decibel. For the ladies, there was no hair dryer in the room, you might have to ask reception upfront for it. Breakfast is included, we were traveling early the next day and it was already prepared and stored for us in the fridge. Delicious...
