Initially, I did not want to say anything, scared of being labelled as the “dramatic bride”, but after 2 months of being stuck in Bali on honeymoon and eventually getting back to SA and sharing my experience with friends and family, I realized that I need to make you aware of my extreme disappointment which I experienced with you on the day of my WEDDING. I booked one of your Bridal Packages for my wedding day on 14 March 2020 (which was quite expensive, especially considering the following points I will be making), which I’m sure you will be able to trace on your system. Upon my arrival with my 3 bridesmaids that morning, there was no one to receive us. We had to stand around and ask parking attendants on the premises if they knew where we had to go. My maid of honor decided to phone reception and ask for directions to our preparation room. One would think that this would result in someone coming to assist us, but this was not the case and we eventually found our room on our own. My immediate reaction upon walking into the room was “ Is this it?” I felt like I was duped by the website/marketing material. But this was the least of my worries. My eyes fell upon a cheese and fruit platter on the desk, cling wrapped. Now, I realize that this was included in the package I bought, but surely this should rather have been freshly prepared and brought to the room by a staff member? It did not look appetizing at all and ended up being the joke of the morning. Not to mention the champagne glasses that looked like it was used for someone’s 1985 matric farewell. No offence to the matriculates of 1985. There was just Zero attention to detail. …At this point I was still expecting a staff member to walk up the stairs to meet us….but nothing. My maid of honor phoned your reception, again, and asked if the kitchen could perhaps prepare a small breakfast for myself and my bridesmaids (which we would have paid for of course) as we have not eaten yet. We were told that this was not going to be possible as you were too busy that morning. Needless to say we were a bit taken aback and quite shocked. 2 of my Bridesmaids had to leave and get us takeaways for breakfast. I felt so special. Not once did someone pop by the room to introduce themselves, to represent the guesthouse, to ask if we needed anything. No refreshments offered. Nothing. Luckily we had 1 bottle of champagne included in the package and we decided to bring 2 extra bottles. At one point I phoned reception, yes, again, and requested that the lady I booked the package with, please come and meet me at the room. I found it quite strange and a bit eerie that I had to phone the guesthouse I was sitting in to meet a staff member. Nevertheless, I was met by a flustered young lady who I could see did not quite know what to make of me conveying my frustrations. I ended up feeling bad for her and decided to make the best of what is left of my morning. When my mom arrived for her turn in the makeup chair (bringing my own champagne glasses to appear in my photos), she decided to have a bite of the fruit platter, bless her soul, but quickly realized that there was no knife to cut the cheese….. Fast forward another hour and we were blessed by a session of load shedding. No worries, they must have a generator, surely… Shamelessly, I phoned reception again. “Yes”, the lady informed me, they do have a generator….in the conference room. I sensed that I was not going to get much sympathy from this person so without further ado my makeup artist and I made our way to the conference room to do my hair……. I tried my best to not make this a big deal but I could see the pity in my makeup artists eyes. No bride would ever want to sit in a conference room to do her hair for the biggest day of her life. Not once did someone come and apologize for the inconvenience. I laughed this off that morning, but subconsciously this infiltrated my entire day. I sincerely hope that this was a one-time thing and that you will make other brides feel more special, as they deserve to feel on...
Read moreOver the last many years I have stayed at Evertsdal Guesthouse on my business trips to Cape Town. It is my home away from home . Evertsdal is beautifully furnished. It is quiet, and in the mornings I love to hear the bird songs as I walk to the dining area in the main house. The beds are comfortable, the towels fresh and good, the rooms (although they vary in size, and I do have a couple of favorite ones), are all spacious and clean. The parking sufficient and the place is safe and secure.|I also need to make a big mention of the staff. They are all friendly, gracious and absolutely delightful and accommodating. Thank you always to Yolandi, who makes me smile. The two chefs, Sophie and Janine, with the help of their team and Danelle (who was on duty last week) to direct and guide, make the most sublime breakfasts. Different breads, my favorite pancakes, flapjacks, muffins, quiches and proper fresh fruit salad each morning. Not to mention, but I just have to, their omelets, English breakfasts or anything that takes your fancy, they will gladly accommodate. I have to share that the coffee is amazing! I prefer eating in during the evenings. Every evening the supper is brought to the rooms. Sophie makes the most delicious meals, and they are beautifully plated and accompanied by some incredible desert. I can really recommend staying in and enjoying the evening meals!|Anyone wanting to find a really good place to stay that, I believe, ticks all the necessary blocks, I do highly recommend...
Read moreWe had the pleasure of staying at the guesthouse, in Kendall road. Location is excellent for sight seeing around Durbanville. I am extremely security conscious and felt very safe here.
When booking, I thought the various houses were all on one property, when in fact they are all on the same block, but with their own sun entrances.
The family room we had was on the first floor with a king size bed, and a double bed opposite it, with two comfortable chairs to chill and watch tv. There are limited channels and decent internet.
There was a sliding door leading to a large patio which gets amazing sunshine. The guesthouse is absolutely fresh and spotless. There is a small fridge with bottles of water on offer for R15 a bottle. There is also plenty tea and coffee.
There is a lovely lounge area downstairs with a fireplace (which we were not sure whether we could light or not).
We didn’t use the restaurant or pool area so cannot comment on those, but both looked lovely.
Our aircon was a little noisy and the pillows are too soft for us, which is fine because we take our own pillows.
The reservation team are so helpful and responsive. Check in and check out was quick and easy.
A special note to the cleaning ladies during our stay, they were exceptional and so friendly.
We were fortunate to stay when the guesthouse didn’t seem too busy, so we were lucky it was nice and quiet.
We will...
