Dutch Haven Bistro — Restaurant in Bellville

What an experience this was, and in the worst ways possible. We were greeted and seated quickly. When it came time to order we had a coffee milkshake and coffee. The menu has Dutch names of course with nice clear explanations. We asked the waiter how to pronounce what we were ordering and he plainly responded “ag, French toast”. Which is all well and fine and we had a giggle. The coffee milkshake came in a latte glass and for R48 was far too small and far too sweet but alas we waited for our food that came promptly however the plates were slammed onto the table by the lady ( who was not our waiter, Keith). We moved on and ate the pitiful amount of food on our plate and carried on. Time for the bill. The card machine was abruptly ripped from my mothers hands while trying to put in her pin and after the payment went through the card was quite literally THROWN at my mother. What a lovely little restaurant, hidden inside the high street tygervalley centre. The kids enjoyed the play area, and I enjoyed the fact that we could sit right up against the play area to keep an eye. The play area and outside seating are under high shade netting, making it perfect for the sunnier days. We had drinks, breakfast and a waffle (of course); everything was scrumptious. I enjoyed the fact the menu was something different (as they stick to their Dutch theme). For instance; when I asked for a sauce for my fries, they brought me an imported "frites sauce" (picture attached), which I found to be a pleasant little touch for the Dutch theme.

We noticed that they do combo meals (pics on combo menu attached) for 1 & and 4 people, so we will definitely be returning to test them. We can't wait to...

I have been to dutch haven once before and the food is very tasty and well made. The servers are friendly and the atmosphere is very small town resturant and relaxing. I have however recently bought a wikideals voucher and constantly get different information about coming to the establishment. I have been trying for 2 months to make use of it. Either there is no availability or you are asked to call on the day you wish to come which is completely understandable and realistic. One consultant says book and send me the voucher and the other says just come over but call before you come. The trading times are very inconsistant so the best is to phone weeks before and book regardless of what you are told to ensure you can make use of the money you have...
