I am exploring Western Cape from Pretoria on my motorcycle. Called them from Calvinia at 15:45 and asked what is latest check in as I only needed place to sleep and really wanted to reach the coast. Arrived at 20:45 the evening. Checked in and sorted within minutes. Everything was clean and well equipped. Money well spent! Was a little worried since the main entrance to the premisies does not have a gate or security and my motorcycle was parked in the parking lot but guess it was only my "Gauteng" paranoia as there was zero issues. Would maybe put people's minds at ease to get a night guard patrolling the premises. I know that would have put my mind at ease. But good stay over none the less.

Lovely large room, comfortable bed with down pillows and duvet goid quality bedding, no aircon or fan but maybe a fan can be arranged or bring your own. Has a small fridge and TV. I would prefer blockout curtains but thats my preference. Price is very reasonable but I would not stay there on a Friday night because the smell from the Fish factory next door is pretty bad. No smell on Sat or Sun. Hotel looks grotty from the back but so lovely at the front which faces the river. It has a pub but a distance away from the rooms, it was quiet on both nights. Nice restuarant right on the river. I would definately go back again.

We were in room 4 for 2 days. I am giving only 2 stars for the room because there was NO place to put your soap in the shower. We are old and had to bend down to the floor to get our soap and shampoo. There are spiderwebs in the room and bathroom ceilings. The green blanket on the bed had big jik stains. The service get 3 stars.... Waiters was very helpfull and friendly... But really... PLEASE tell the girl in the front to smile and be friendly. She is NOT helpfull and have NO personality. The guy who came on late Monday(floor manager) was GREAT.!

Tranquil location, comfy accommodation except that there is no mirror on bathroom. Some staff not friendly. Issue with breakfast. Menu states omelette incl toast, sausage etc. Ordered omelette only but was told that toast not for hotel guests. Considering I did not order any of the other items, a slice of toast could have been provided. The omelette was like rubber. The choice of breakfast leaves much to be desired especially for those who do not eat meat, no fruit juice available either, no cereal /muesli /fruit available. If it's too difficult to make muesli, buy a box from Spar! If fruit not available, buy frozen berries as an example and a make a compote. Offer French toast! When the lack of toast was brought to the waiter's attention, I was told that the Manager would come to our table, 30 minutes passed and No manager. This may be a small "issue" but it's the principle involved. Don't state items on menu if not available to hotel guests. It's not as if it was a costly item either. Needless to say, we opted not to have breakfast there...

Checked in today after a very long and tiring day, settled into my room. Nothing fancy, but ok. While relaxing after I showered one of the staff kept on fiddling on the door handle when i opened she apologized. Probably an hour later another staff member fiddled on my door and i though let me just leave it, however this time staff member is knocking like a policemen. Opened the door this lady asked " Can i come in?", me surprised, as I'm still waiting to be greeted. This lady walked in my room and when through the draws and cupboards, where my personal belongings is in. Apparently she is looking for a charge which belongs to the previous guest. Only concern ow is of she is going through the cupboards where my personal belongings are, what will happen when not here and going to work.... Very disappointed and uncomfortable with...

Having to patiently wait my turn and then to only be rejected by receiption staff member due to her having to step away from the receiption desk to show guests to their room and telling me to wait until she is done with the guests....makes for a very unpleasant visit. Other hotel staff all around but no-one seems to be able to man the front desk to assist with me with my enquiry. I wanted to enquire about staying here, but I fear that if this is the level of poor reception I am going to get from doing an enquiry, then the actual staying at the hotel would be met with equal poor service as well. Common sense tells me there should be staff that show guests to their rooms and staff manning the receiption desk at all times. You need...
