Nestled in the heart of Dullstroom's picturesque countryside, Jocks Cottage is an enchanting haven that truly captured our hearts. From the moment we arrived, we knew we were in for a memorable and romantic getaway.

The rustic setting of Jocks Cottage is nothing short of magical. Surrounded by rolling hills and lush greenery, the cottage boasts a timeless charm that instantly transports you to a bygone era. Speaking of the fireplace, it was the centerpiece of our stay. Cozying up together in front of the crackling flames as the soft glow illuminated our faces created an intimate and romantic atmosphere. The gentle pop and snap of the burning logs created a symphony of comfort that simply melted our stresses away.

The passing train, although a rare occurrence in South Africa these days, added an unexpected touch of tranquility to our experience. As it chugged along in the distance, the rhythmic sound of the train wheels on the tracks created a soothing melody that harmonized with the serene surroundings. It reminded us of a simpler time and became an unexpected highlight of our stay.

What truly sets Jocks Cottage apart is its unparalleled peacefulness and tranquility. Far from the hustle and bustle of city life, time seemed to stand still here. We recently stayed at Jock’s Cottages as a last-minute stopover on our way back to Joburg. While the property itself is charming and holds a lot of potential, our experience unfortunately fell short of expectations.

The journey to the cottages was challenging, as the dirt road leading there is not ideal for regular vehicles. We even got stuck in the mud on the way, which was quite stressful. Upon arrival, there was no intercom or clear signage, so we had to call the hosts. We waited over 20 minutes outside the property until one of the workers arrived, and even after entering, there was more confusion about our unit due to an error on their part.

While the unit was clean, it didn’t feel ready for new guests. There were no welcome snacks or drinkable water.

We tried to make the best of it by relaxing and having a braai, but the atmosphere was disrupted by loud music from the nearby informal settlement. The noise continued well into the night and into the next morning, which really took away from the peaceful retreat we had hoped for.

It’s clear the property has great potential, and we were drawn by the glowing reviews from previous guests. However, our experience didn’t quite align with the reputation. With better communication, preparation, and soundproofing measures, Jock’s Cottages could truly be a fantastic destination.

We loved our stay at Jock's Cottage just before the Easter weekend. The cottage was spotless and comfortable. There is a double bed in the main suite downstairs and two single beds in the two upstairs bedrooms. These beds are best suited to children or teens. The dam is only a few metres from the patio and the birdlife was very special. The resident Kingfishers kept us entertained in the early morning and late afternoon. ||This is a place you can escape to when you need a break or some quiet time. Johan visited us to make sure that everything was ok and gave us such a warm welcome. ||You will love Jock's Cottage if you want to spend family time chatting around their farmhouse kitchen table without television or other distractions. You will love it if you enjoy walking, the great outdoors, birdlife, trout fishing, a homely retreat with a fireplace, and the spectacular, quaint village of Dullstroom. We hope to go back soon.
