My wife and I just returned from a lovely weekend away which she planned as a surprise birthday getaway.||||From the moment we arrived, the hostess and owner, Heleen, was warm and welcoming. The guest house has been charmingly renovated. Typically, I enjoy separate entrances at B&Bs and guest houses, but I was not bothered on this occasion. We were shown to our room, Champagne. I do not know how the other rooms compare in size, but Champagne was spacious and incredibly comfortable; boasting a walk-in closet and change room and a very big bathroom. The corner jacuzzi spa bath was just incredible and the overhead skylight was arguably the show stopping feature of the bathroom!||||Double doors from the room open on to a breathtaking communal garden which is the pride of Bordeaux Haven; as well it should be.||||The swimming pool was cold, perhaps the only negative of the weekend. The very informative in-room information booklet said that the water would be 24 degrees. It wasn't which was a pity because the weather was very hot.||||The in-room information booklet was filled with many useful tips. ||||The attention to detail warranted the guest house's 4 star rating.||||Dinner was great on Friday night, but it is necessary to pre-order dinner. Options were limited, but the execution of the meal was great. Breakfast is hearty and the portions are good. A romantic picnic in the garden was arranged for lunch. Again, a surprise. The selection was fantastic and, again, the portions were good (perhaps even too much). The romantic option also came with a tray of goodies after dinner and a candle-lit bathroom. Exquisite.||||We asked a lot of the hostess and she and her staff always delivered. Nothing was too much.||||I would unreservedly recommend Bordeaux Haven to anyone visiting the area. Only an hour from Johannesburg and a short drive from other attractions near the Vaal, it is a true gem.||||A solid 4.5 out of...
Read moreWe have just returned from a 26 day trip to SA .Our first night was spent at Bordeaux Haven Guest House. After arriving at O Tambo we collected our rental car and drove to Vereeniging to our prebooked room for the night. We preferred not to stay in Joburg and we didn’t want to drive more than an hour and a half after a long international flight. I had a bit of a task finding good value, non hotel/motel accommodation with secure off street parking to suit us. We were en route to Dundee the next day so Bordeaux Haven was ideal. The room was nice, staff friendly and we arrived on a Saturday night when dinner isn’t normally served. We asked via email if an evening meal could be possible as the last thing we wanted to do was get in the car and drive in an unfamiliar area to get dinner. This was no problem and we really appreciated them accommodating our request. It is a charming venue, well run and an excellent stop over for those like us who are...
Read moreThis gem is hidden away between lush green trees in the suburb of Three Rivers and the fact that it is hidden adds to the tranquility of the property. September 2016 marked our 5th visit to this home away from home. The room are lovely and exit onto the garden albeit the small lawn in the back or the exquisite landscaped garden with the swimming pool area. The fact that you can lie in bed at night and actually hear the birds in the garden adds to the ambiance of this wonderful establishment. The staff are friendly and helpful but you are not disturbed by their presence. A lovely place to stay over and remember to add your name to the blackboard in the dining area and note our names at the bottom -...
