La Perna Guesthouse & Venue — Hotel in Gauteng

I don't really know how much to rate this place. Let me tell you my experience then you decide the rating. Brought my Fiance here for her 30th birthday and also so that she can see the venue for our wedding.

I chose the most expensive room available. R1800 p/night only because of the "Jacuzzi" but it's actually a heated spa pool. Not Hot enough on max temp to jacuzzi at night or in the day.

Coffee station in the room you are given 1 coffee per person for the entire day.

No upsize on the double bed compared to a R800p/night room.

Upon arrival I asked the manager Dixon what time is dinner served until in the restaurant, He replied 20:30

I ordered a pizza from their restaurant. One hour later I called to follow up on my pizza. I again asked waiter what time restaurant closes as we really wanted to stay on the premises. He replied 20:30

We arrived at the restaurant at 18:30 the manager who is not apologetic at all tells us we closed at 18:00 Very upset we left for town to look for a place to have dinner and celebrate the birthday. I called Dixon to express my dissatisfaction and he replied Ja it's a problem. Said I'll call you back in 5min. Never heard from him again.

Anyway the place is Super Beautiful, but with such poor management all-round for just one evening I guess we will be looking for another venue. I can't see this venue Flourishing!

A lady there by the name Caroline was very friendly & sympathetic and was the only person who tried to apologise for the mishaps of the venue the next morning. She should be in a guest relations management position really.

Well.. booking at La Perna for a special occasion was not a good idea. Beautiful place, good for kids. BUT. They did not reserve my table for 14 people that was booked 10 days in advance- so they had to scramble to get a place ready. Then we got "the best" waiter, that was totally disconnected from the table, with no smile, and no customer service. We then put our order together ourselves to help him - as we were warned that we might wait 40 - 45 minutes for our food as they were very busy. After our order was placed at 13:10 we received 3 of our parties' food at about 14:45. We then waited again for about 15 minutes - continuously asking some progress on the waiting time, being told by the manager that he said we would wait an hour +. By the time the rest of the people got their food, the first of our party already asked for doggy bags as they already finished eating. They also forgot one meal, which was then frantically prepared. Although the manager apologized, the experience was not good at all. This was a yearly family reunion and a 21st birthday celebration that ended in disappointment. The kitchen was way to slow. The waiters very unfriendly and everything felt disorganized. The food was good... but not worth the wait....

My 1st time at La Perna, and a very busy one too, at 1st what I saw was one beautiful, hectic busy place with loads of kids birthday parties going on at the same time (sort of a chaos to the fly situation) but after observing a bit, it was clear the staff had their jobs cut out for them but managed it smoothly.

Our waiter had a bit of an off day, but the issue got resolved instantly and a new waiter was assigned with a smile. All taken into consideration, a fun kids friendly place (which hardly ever comes togehter with a pretty/appealing/stylish and organised venue, diner or restaurant), with an excellent service first policy which makes it worthwhile visiting. Food is good, not necessarily above average but nothing to complain about and perfect for what the venue presents. What I did notice is that the kiddies menu options reaches way beyond what is generally offered and I loved having options for my picky eater!!

If you have a child and want to get out a bit or want to host a small to medium kiddies birthday party, I'd say this is a pretty good option to go to. Prices are also well within the limits of the going rates, and not over priced at all. Overall good...
