I feel like I was misled when choosing this hotel in Joburg. The pictures used to show off are not recent, this place feels like the shell or the memory of a once great hotel maybe from around 2015 that is now run down. It looks like they were victims of the pandemic lockdowns and have never recovered. The spa is closed and they still have a sign on the locked spa saying Covid-19 is the reason why, four years later when other hotels have spa services open. One of the two lifts is out of service. They use kettle bell weights from the gym to prop doors open. The floors are dirty and I saw several cockroaches in the hallway. It was frustrating to me that I called to request a pick up from the airport earlier in the day, gave a time and confirmed with the hotel for 6PM only to be told when I arrived at the airport that they did not have any drivers and had to get a taxi with a person who then tried to scam me into paying more when they went the wrong way. The area immediately around the hotel was filled with homeless beggars and drug users, though I did see plenty of security and cameras on the property and never felt unsafe while in the hotel.||The room was poor. I could not use the safe in the room because the hotel does not have the key for it. Yes that's right, they don't have a key for at least one of their own room safes. The bathroom was okay, the fixtures were nice looking and there was good water pressure and very hot water. The door to the bathroom scraped the floor when opened and closed, it does not seem to be the right size or fitted properly. When I arrived to the room the television remote's batteries were dead. Not a huge problem, I told the front desk and their maintenance man Justin replaced them within 20 minutes. The headboard on the bed was peeling, I woke up to find brown and tan flakes on my shoulders and in my hair. View from the room overlooked a trash heap dumping ground. They lost power several times, but that is not the hotel's fault and they thankfully did have a generator up and running about an hour after the lights went out.||Food was unremarkable. They only serve breakfast via a buffet you need to request a coupon for from the front desk and it looked like whatever was left over was used the next morning. Very few options for hot food (who eats alfredo pasta for breakfast?). There are staff members who stood around doing absolutely nothing but talk and gossip or stare at their phones, everything is self-service and no one bothered to lift a finger. There is no dinner or lunch served. There is a Nando's across the street where you can get food from and the front desk worker offered to have their man Justin escort me there and back to be safe; I really appreciated this gesture. I was able to arrange a drop off to the airport which went smoothly. Overall I would not recommend staying here as a traveler, the four-star status they claim is just not accurate at...
Read moreI checked in on Friday night. Upon entering the bathroom , I realised that the toilet was full of filth, including traces of filth on the toilet pan. I complained to reception. He said he is working on|it. I waited 30 minutes and nothing happened. I called him back. He said sorry but no cleaners are available and there are no other rooms available. He said he will forward my complaint to management. I wonder if that was ever done as nobody contacted me thereafter. I then had to clean the toilet myself. The next morning I was rushing for a meeting and I had realised that no towels were provided to me at all. I called reception to ask for towels. I waited 20 minutes. No towels arrived. I showered without a towel and ended up being late for my meeting. On Saturday afternoon, I called reception and said I have a pair of clothes to wash, on condition I get it back Sunday morning at 7:30 as I have to leave for the airport. The receptionist said she is confirming this with housekeeping and if 730am is possible, then they will collect it from me. 3 minutes later, a lady knocked on the door and said she can do it for me for R100. I agreed. I confirmed with her that I need it by 730 and she agreed. The next morning I called reception several times regarding my clothes but nobody knew whats happening. I waited and waited. Until eventually I received my clothes at 8:55am! I rushed to the airport & ended up being late for my flight! I was issued with another ticket for the night, so I had to book a room at a hotel nearby to rest. I wanted to be in durban for a very important family occassion which I had missed out on due to their pathetic service. ||Excellent fully fledged halaal breakfast. However, the restaurant is in a seperate building. That morning it rained and we had to walk in the rain to get to the restaurant. They should arrange a sheltered pathway between the hotel...
