Great spot to get away from everyday busy life. When you arrive, you and your luggage hop onto a little rowing boat. The caretaker will row, so don’t worry about that :)
The short boat ride really sets the mood for the stay, no worries, just good old fun with the people you go with.
The kitchen/braai area is great, you’ll feel right at home with all the utensils. There are more then enough of everything. The house itself is quite an experience, it give you a real feeling of being remote. The house does have municipal water that you can drink and electricity that runs of a solar system with a backup generator. Ps. There is a nice outside shower I can recommend!
You get one kayak, 2 seater, with the house and you can rent more from a nearby kayak rentals place(just up the river), we payed R150 per hour per person. There is a waterfall just around the corner up the river, quite nice and an easy hike at the end of the river past the kayak rentals place. There’s also some other great hikes in the area. Like “the map of Africa” one is just there.
You are able to walk across the river in some areas, +-1m deep when the tide is low. This way you can easily do a grocery/booze run, so you aren’t stranded and reliant on someone else to take you across :)
Almost forgot about all the games they have there. Poker, 30 seconds, ping pong table(bring your own balls, they easily go of the deck). The foozeball table is not to great but you can give it a go. They have some beach bats , so bring a squash ball or tennis ball. I left a cheap cricket bat and ball there, maybe it’s still there :) There’s probably some more games behind the bar, just can’t think...
Read moreWe shared this home with 12 friends for 5 days and it was an unforgettable vacation. The home itself is rustic, spacious and boasts many original trimmings from when it was first built. The home has all the amenities one needs and has an outside shower hut that everyone enjoyed! The care taker Francis was very helpful and shared information on the surrounding areas and activities we can do. To get to the house, your luggage is collected at the river bank by boat and taken across to the house while you walk along the river. You can either cross your self ( it was mostly knee deep) or you can be collected and taken across by boat. Then there are about 3 flights of stone stairs you need to walk up to get to the house. ( we brought enough liquor for an army and we totally payed the price carrying it all up there LOL ) Late nights around the fire and early morning coffees on the deck are memories we cherish forever. Watching the river and ocean meet in low /high tides, star gazing with our mates on the loft balcony, kayaking down the river to the waterfall were only but a few spectacular sites to see on this trip. Thank you Kaaimans River Deckhouse - You will be in our...
Read moreKaaimans River Lodge is a small, hidden corner in Wilderness' Paradise. We visited as a family of two adult, two teenagers, and one dog for the views and solitude. We experienced the history of the Lodge and the Railway Bridge, the snug comfort of a well thought out cabin, the adventure of the River mouth, waterfall and surrounds, and the friendliness of Francis (the property care taker). The cabin is exactly as described. Gustav does not disappoint in his detailed communication from confirming your booking to check-out. Our stay was a unique experience and we highly recommend it if you want to go off the grid, reconnect with nature and your companions, and leave with some good photos and memories. You will be glad you stayed at Kaaimans...
