Knysna River Club is a vacation resort made up of Timeshare, hired units, and some owned units. The ones that are at the lagoon’s edge are not timeshare units. These are upmarket log cabins, well-furnished and well equipped for self-catering. This vacation resort is ideal if you have children as caters mainly to that age. It has a games room, swimming pool, mini golf, and bike riding. It also has a jacuzzi but that is for hire an hour at a time, but I found it too full of chlorine and made my skin itch from the chemicals thereafter. A nice lagoon walk within 30 minutes will take you to a shopping center. It is centrally located and close to many pubs offering good weekend music. It has no shops on site. If you want just a quiet holiday without lots of children, this is not the place for you. The cabins although good, in general, I would rate it 3 stars, but I had a few qualms. 1) the shower is a stand-in bath shower 2) The TV in the bedroom is a mere mirror of the lounge TV so you and the kids can’t watch different channels. 3) The TV in the lounge is very confusing to work on (and I consider myself very IT literate), and most would find it confusing. 4) If you wanted to plug in items like gaming units, it is not possible as the TV is connected to a central control box and hides all the plugs into the TV. You can only plug it into the main bedroom TV unit. The unit itself in winter was very cold and they do supply a radiator heater, however mine I did not find on the first day as was stuck behind a couch. There are electric blankets on the main and 2nd bedrooms. The Wi-Fi is unlimited and different sub-Wi-Fi are placed amongst the cabins with the same password. The Wi-Fi is slow but covers basic things like surfing the net, WhatsApp, and e-mails. But anything faster will not work well. I plugged in Netflix via an HDMI cable in the bedroom, and this someday worked, others it stopped every 5 minutes, and a buffering circle would start. The very positive point I wanted to make is reception was very well run. Before booking in they created a WhatsApp group so they can handle any questions upfront. The ladies were extremely pleasant and Helpful. The Manager even offered people to go out into the village overnight and get people something if needed. Even though I did not use it, I thought it was a nice personal touch. She even offered her mobile to all checking in on a note whilst checking so you can contact her after hours if needed if you had any problems with the cabin, TVs, etc. Not wheelchair friendly as far as I could see as steps to all cabins on both sides unless there is one reserved for disabled and I...
Read moreThis was my second stay at Knysna River Club at the lagoon chalet. Unfortunately this trip was let down by the service, which was impeccable the first time. We arrived at 2pm, which is stated check in time, and were told that the chalet wasn’t ready yet and still being cleaned. I asked if we could at least unpack the cold items we had into the fridge, and although this was communicated to the cleaning staff, we still had to wait about half an hour to do so. We sat outside on the veranda for at least an hour before we could check in. The second day we received a call to ask if we’d like the chalet cleaned, which we accepted. Day 3 nobody called or came around, so after midday I went to the office and was given the rather abrupt excuse that “we have had a lot of check outs today” and that they’d be along later. The lady eventually came to clean around 2pm. Day 4 we watered until nearly 3:30pm in the afternoon with the same excuse when I called the office. That day the lady cleaned closer to 4:30pm. This is not acceptable service to your clients that are still staying at the resort, and the management should be hiring additional staff to meet seasonal demand. As other reviewers have mentioned, there is nothing available in terms of little lamps during loadshedding or the special light bulbs that you can buy that run during these times. Loadshedding has been going on for years, there’s no excuse for not making provision for this. Other than that, these are beautiful chalets right on the riverfront and so peaceful. It was truly disappointing that this second experience was let down by something as...
Read moreFirst of all, for a lot more than a fantastic few other places Charge, this is a let down. No sleep for 2 nights as guests have visitors over until late. Kids screaming and disrespectful grades of people partying till late. Cars leaving at all hours, hooting. The pool is overrun by kids who pee in the gardens and scream. The photos are also manipulative, as cabins seems private and open. The real fact is they are condensed and very tightly packed . We booked adjoining cabins, which were guaranteed, but this also didn't happen. The sauna is nowhere to be found, the jacuzzi seems broken. The couch is not clean, there floors are sticky and there's nothing to clean with (no one seems to come out to clean). I am sure this is not a bad place, but be sure what you are booking for. Competition from cabins on farms are tight, and there are options that are mind-blowing, with a level of guests that respect others and nature, quiet and relaxation. Staff was friendly, I hope management will find a way to beat these issues. There's a lot of...
