Oudtshoorn- Karoo Retreat- Self Catering Accommodation — Hotel in George

The experience with Karoo-Retreat soured before it even started. My husband and I were looking for accommodations in the Oudtshoorn area. We looked at pricing on their website. On the website, it states room prices starting from R550, R650, and R750 per night for the respective rooms. When we called this morning they gave us completely other pricing however the lady then told my husband she would give us the accommodation at R750 per night which we agreed to because we understand it is within peak season. So we would've paid an extra R200 per night on the advertised price. My husband agreed. She calls him back and says that she won't give it at that price because we previously agreed to pay R900.00 per night. Which we never did. We have been welcomed very friendly and book in went smoothly. The unit was clean and neat. The pool is sparkling clean with gardens and stools clean. Problems experience during our 6 day stay was resolved by the manager immediately. Constructive criticism , the units are not for groups as it's not separated from each other that makes it noisy and because of one braai , boma were occupied by group the whole weekend with a sleeping guest in the car. The units are not suitable for elderly because of the steps to the loft. We are old school and the open shower causes wet floors. The open cupboards are not hygienic as flies, dust etc can contaminate your plates and utensils. OVERALL. I still rate it 4 stars because it deserves it and a great place...

Lovely place with spacious rooms that feel like a small flatlet. Everything you need is included, like a fridge, small stove, microwave, and they also provide cutlery and everything else you might need. The bathroom has a bath and shower.

However, we stayed in room 4, and the condenser unit for the neighboring room's air-conditioning was right above our roof. Unfortunately, they turned it on at 1am, and it sounded like a farm generator starting and stopping all night, keeping us awake until morning. Honestly, I don't even understand why they ran their air-conditioning with such pleasant weather!?

I would still recommend this place, but they should consider relocating the condenser units to avoid...
