For our honeymoon we were looking for a wonderful place to stay and came across Plett River Lodge. We were immediately in love with the lodge and the cottage we were shown on Expedia. Modern, African-inspired just great. A whole cottage at the lodge for us, so it looked in the pictures, with living room and everything. Inviting and bright. Unfortunately, when we arrived we were blindsided. We were led into a small dark room that was getting on in years. It did not look very inviting. The door did not lock properly and it also smelled, probably because of the mold in the room. Unfortunately, this was not a nice surprise at all. In the bathroom the ceiling and the wall as well as the tiles were moldy, when my lamp tipped over many tiny flies fell out. Unfortunately for us, a total miss. The room would definitely have to be renovated, also the mattress was much too small for the bed, so that the slatted frame was exposed and we saw how unstable the construction seemed by a few boards. Also, it should be mentioned that the rooms neither have air conditioning (which led to very sweaty nights) and there is no way to cool drinks as there was no fridge. (We then had to drive to the nearby Checkers, bought a freezer there and helped out with Crasheis to be able to drink anything cool at all the days). A small mini fridge would give the rooms a little more quality and for 130€ a night you should expect something like that. All in all, the room was not worth the money.
Also, when booking it said that there would be breakfast. Unfortunately the attached restaurant was closed for the days we were there, this meant no food as well as no breakfast, this would have been nice if communicated.
But now also something positive we would like to mention:
Brendar, the lady who greeted us was very friendly and helpful. She took care of our laundry when we asked about the laundry service offered and was very friendly and accommodating in everything. This made our 3 night stay a little easier. The only thing to mention is that the laundry service is paid per item of clothing. But was okay for us The room service (or daily cleaning) is also done without being asked but is very good.
When we arrived in the evening and had a quick snack in the restaurant, the waiters were very nice and accommodating and the food down to earth but very tasty.
The restaurant is highly...
Read moreThis place is a little odd. Not sure what the relationship is to the restaurant there. We stayed there New Year’s Eve and hotel staff said the restaurant would be open for breakfast the next day but it wasn’t. ||||No safe in the room. Property is gate locked at nite with no staff on grounds. ||||Not much in the way of soap or shampoo provided. Bathtub and shower were not in bathroom, but outside the bathroom. ||||It is located on a wetland so there are lots of mosquitos around. No screens on windows and no way to get fresh air unless the windows are open. Closed windows means the rooms heat up. ||||Shower door fell off in other bedroom we booked for family. ||||Staff were friendly. ||||I’m not too keen on properties built in a wetland but there was nothing else available. ||||Thought it was a bit over priced for what...
