Not taking away anything from the beautiful location and the amazing views, this establishment is in need of some maintenance.... the main lodge is also in very short supply when it comes to crockery, knives and some sort of plastic containers if you are doing self catering for a period of more than a couple of days. Luckily the lodge is equipped with gas stoves as the likelihood of power failures in the area is a huge probability. Guests should be advised on booking confirmation that this occurs on a regular basis and they should be prepared. They do have a generator but ||It is only switched on for a couple of hours in the evening and ||does not power everything. Also found that it is not child or aged-people friendly as the stairs/ladders to the loft rooms are quite hair-raising. Apart from the swimming pool, there are no other distractions for toddlers and you need to keep a constant watch on them due to the few water tanks and electric fencing on the property. They advertise a pool table but currently it is not fuctioning, no cues and balls and has a tear on it.... they also advertise fans, but not all the rooms have these and if the place is fully booked, you have to do without. We found that the upstairs rooms were unbearably hot, even with the fan on. The place could certainly do with aircon units as well as an alternative and reliable source of power...also found the facilities available very confusing as well as the room accommodations... the TVs are minute and we had no satellite reception...||It is situated in one of the most beautiful parts of the country and the views are absolutely breathtaking... so that...
Read moreWhat a lovely place! Located in beautiful Magoebaskloof near the picturesque town of Haenertsburg.
Best accessed from the R71 taking the Ebenezerdam turnoff, the road is a bit rough, but should be ok with a standard car if driven carefully unless it's wet, in which case a 4x4 or SUV might be better.
Diggersrest lodge is situated in a perfectly manicured & landscaped garden with breathtaking views, which are even more enchanting in the early morning mist!
They have a lovely swimming pool which we thoroughly enjoyed.
We rented the Deluxe family suite which has a large and spacious open plan living room complete with a pool table, fireplace, TV room, library and dining room.
There is a full kitchen with all the amenities including an oven, gas stove, fridge-freezer and microwave.
I would caution that all the bedrooms in this unit are located in the loft area which is only accessable via a very steep staircase with extremely narrow stairs. This should be a dealbreaker for the elderly or infirm.
Nonetheless we really loved the decor, ambiance and space afforded by the open-plan design.
There is a bathroom/toilet upstairs with a bath (no shower) and a toilet downstairs.
We had Netflix and OpenView on the TV, and there is free Wi-fi on the premises.
Minor challenges were dealt with professionally and with alacrity by the staff and manager Johannes...
Read morePLEASE BEWARE! The most unprofessional, unreliable hosts! It is the greatest disappointment! Shocking. We have visitors from overseas, made a booking at this place, to go to berry festival nearby. Booking was made and paid via email, well in advance. The visitors arrived two days ago, and in preparation for our trip, we have contacted the place. To our shock, the hosts were totally unaware of the booking, regardless to the fact that we have provided them with their own email confirmation and proof of payment. Furthermore, they have confirmed our payment, but informed us that it was some problem with their website and that unfortunately, they are not able to accommodate us. They have committed to return the deposit and that was it. My question is, what do we do now, where should we stay? The place is nearly 400km from Pretoria. What do we do with all the bookings we made for the places there, i.e. tubing, zip lines etc? We have foreign guests. This is the way South Africa is represented at this place. Extreme...
