Ebony Lodge Mthatha — Hotel in King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality

The only good thing about Ebony Lodge was the two men that we had a fabulous evening with. ||Check in was ok, on entering the bedroom I could see it was dated on closer inspection the bedding was old and grey looking, the paintwork what there was of it was grubby and peeling. The lighting was dismal, the gloominess hid the dire need of a deep clean. The bathroom was small and grubby too, the shower was hot but as with the rest of the bedroom needed alit if TLC.I asked for an hairdryer and was given a bag with several in and to,d that she didn’t know if any worked.||We asked on checkin for a table at 19:00 which were to,d was booked, at 19:00 we went and the restaurant and outdoor eating space was full,we were told, we’d have to wait until a table became available as they were busy ! Eventually we found a table for ourselves thanks to the two men we ended up chatting too. As for the food it’s mediocre at best. ||Check out the following morning the receptionist had no idea if we’d paid which I did and had to show her the online payment, she had no idea on the restaurant bill from the previous evening and we had to go to the restaurant to find out. ||This was a one night stop dictated by mileage if our trip, had we known it was so bad we’d have driven another hour, wouldn’t...

Very average ! I had just been discharged from hospital so I was expecting a restful evening before traveling back to PE. For what I paid for the room, I expected a bit more for the money paid. Disliked: The walls in the room were damp and pealing off. The damp smell was overwhelming that when laying on the bed, you could smell the dampness. The toilet did not flush properly, you had to flush it at least 4 times before one single strip of toilet paper goes down. The shower was outside - very nice idea but it was raining.. so did not work out too great. The wifi was not stable, it kept disconnecting so I ended up using my phone to use my laptop. Enjoyed The oniste restaurant served delicious fresh food. Very impressive! Secure parking Very helpful and friendly ladies in the front office. Lovely vibe and atmosphere.

Besides the few little things that need attention, the overall stay was average.

I would never recommend Ebony to anyone. Firstly we booked a double room and the bed was small and uncomfortable. The room was definitely not worth what we paid for. Secondly I forgot my AirPods on the bed and only remembered them when I had already checked out. I called the following day and was told that the cleaning staff will only be in after 9am, I subsequently called back after 9am and was told the cleaner who was allocated to the room we occupied was running late and was not in yet. I then received a call from the receptionist after 10 and she indicated that according to the cleaner no AirPods were found in the room. This can’t be true because the evening before I slept I explicitly remember that I had placed my AirPods underneath the pillow.
