This is an honest opinion about the standard room I was put in.

First of all it is quite apparent that this place was old and then renovated, you can tell by just looking at the windows. The rooms are small, just enough space for everything in it.The fridge seems to be an after thought as it is placed beside the room table and connected to the only 3 pong plug that is available on the desk. So basically bring your adapter unless you just need the 2 pong one and there are no plugs on the sides of the bed to connect to. The shower pump or whatever installed in the ceiling makes an annoying winding noise when you're in the shower. The TV looks atrocious to say the least. It seems to have gone past its usage age and watching anything on it is a pure mess. More worryingly is that management seems to know this because at 8am this morning a handyman woke me from my sleep to come and fix the TV. I just merely told him I did not complain about the TV and he left. I know very well that there is nothing he could of done to fix it unless he was to replace it. That leads me on to the service. The check in was good. The lady there was very nice and the process was quick. However the old lady that came to knock on my door to deliver my breakfast was extremely rude. I was in the shower and by the time i was able to go open the door she was 2 rooms away and she just started blabbing on in Xhosa (I'm Sotho) about how I was not answering my door when they were trying to deliver my food. The lady that ran back to give me my food seemed fine though.

All in all if this place was priced significantly cheaper I'd be ok with what was was offered. The premium you pay does not equal what you receive by no stretch of the imagination. Simple example, you are offered Ricoffy coffee sachets to consume. If that is not a disjointment of what they perceive themselves to be and what they really are, then I don't...

We stayed at Hotel Savoy and Conference Centre for one night. The hotel is easy to find and easily accessible from the main road. The room was decent – the bed was comfortable. The bathroom, though a bit small, was clean and tidy.||Unfortunately, the TV offered very limited channels, which was a bit disappointing. The biggest letdown of the stay, however, was the cold shower in the morning – definitely not something you want to deal with, especially on a cold, winter morning. ||Breakfast was okay but could be improved. It felt like mass catering, where unpopular items were left out for long periods and lacked freshness. I was particularly disappointed with the mushrooms – soggy and unappetising. The fruit selection was quite limited, but the omelette was a highlight and well-prepared.||Check-in and check-out were quick and efficient, though the reception area still has a screen separating staff and guests, which made the experience feel a bit cold and unwelcoming.||The walls a re quite thin so you literally hear everything from your neighbour or the corridor. There is renovations going on as well, so the noise from the construction is an issue if you prefer to start your day with peace and queite.||Overall, it’s a functional stopover hotel, but there's room for improvement, especially with hot water and the...

A group of ANC guys came through next to my room (Executive rooms), their level of noise was unbearable, couldn't sleep. Attempted to call reception / Hote Manager Godfrey to assist and send security to address the matter, phone rings several times with no success. Phoned again and fortunately, my call was answered this time around. Spoke to a lady to send security to assist and address the matter. 20 minutes goes by without any attendance to my query. Due to the unbearable level of noise, i went to knock on their door asking them to keep the noise down, the guys did not care, were drunk and unruly. Not sure if whether the reason for NO ASSISTANCE from Reception after my request could be the fact that the guys are perhaps untouchable due to their political association or what? That even the Hotel staff feels like they cannot address them. But this, was the worst night experience ever, considering the fact that I had to rest so that I can catch a morning flight. I can only imagine what happens in this hotel over the weekends. I would not recommend this hotel for stay over the weekend. Wonder if we are even safe if they cannot send security. PATHETIC!!!!!

Service from the kitchen staff is...

“This is the only place to stay in Mthatha” that’s their ad-slogan. But because this hotel is state of the art, but the other hotels are even worse. So this is a typical Motel-Style Accommodation. Your parking lot is in front of your room door. The rooms are tiny, but there’s anything you really need. It should be good for one or two nights. Should be renovated, but they have a new complex with few rooms at the backyard (called savoy exec.). They seem to be better but no much larger than the old rooms. Breakfast is very good, they serve eggs, bread, salami and ham, cheese and jam such as cereals. And you get a cappuccino from the self-service device.

Check process easy and efficient. Standard Room was small, but was neat and comfortable, good bed. Quite noisy- could hear a lot of voices, cars and doors opening and closing, so not ideal if you need a quiet spot to rest. Some restaurants and shops close enough to walk to - which is quite convenient. Breakfast was lacking, very basic and prepared average. Tea and coffee station available , so coffee is poor quality and tea needs to be made in a small mug, then you need to walk to the cereal counter for milk.

If you are looking for a quick overnight stay in Mthatha, Savoy is conveniently located on the Nelson Mandela drive just outside the city center. But be prepared to do with a few comforts, as the rooms are quite small. Maintenance work does not seem to be a priority, as such there was this disturbing noise that came from the bathroom every morning. As if someone was trying to break into my room. Phones were not working, as such I could not order in.
